Default How many of you have been around since the original ZR-1 Registry?

A few years ago when I bought my second ZR-1 (a White 91 that should have never sold, but I could not afford to keep both at the time) the original owner gave me a box full of binders that contains Registry newsletters from the original organization. The box went into storage and I pulled it out yesterday as I was putting away all the XMas decorations.

Anyway, I started to peruse these and had no idea of the gold mine of information and what a great organization it was. Don't get me wrong, the current ZR-1 Net Registry is a great organization too, but this stuff is unbelievable and I wish there was a simple way to share some of this info with the folks that have never seen it. The stuff I have dates from 1992 to 1997 and monthly issues; I am not sure when the organization folded up. They start out as several 8 1/2 X 11 sheets stapled and folded in half and expands to quite a thick newsletter full of so much information. The strange thing is in 1996 they already had an article about availability of parts. Some of the names I have heard of and many I have never heard of, especially since many time we only know the user name versus their real name. I can't want to take the time to real all of these issues to see what life with the ZR-1 was like then. I also could not believe the shops that advertised in the newsletter and all the stuff that was available then. I remember when I first got my ZR-1 there was LT5 Registry but it was on it way out.

Aloha!

It would be great if they could be scanned into digital PDF's.

I was around at the end. I think my car was in one of the last newsletters in the late 90's early 2000s.

Craig dont laugh but I bought a whole bunch of "ORIGINAL" News letters and "King of the Hill" magazines from 1990-on recently. They are a huge wealth of information and man can we get some of those 1990 modding prices back lol. I was also looking at all the names of some of the members and was at a loss to see but maybe one or two that are still a part of the registry. Keep in mind this was 20 years ago with a car at a 70K and up price point. A lot of those folks have moved on to other high end cars, a few have passed away. ETC ETC.

I have a set of those newsletters too. I saw in one when Frank joined (FU2) and also Phil DeJohn. Marc Haibeck has been around for quite a while too. I read an article about when he bought his car.

I agree there is a lot of information in those newsletters.

Wow, making these into PDF would be a huge project even if I used the high speed digital sender at work. There are like 4 or 5 large binders and the newsletters are binded too.

I don't think it is funny that you bought these as there is a lot of good information. I also understand what you mean about when these cars were new because to me they would be wealthy folks only that could buy these when they were new back then. You must have a bunch of great stuff.

They have digital copiers. I had one at one of my last projects. You feed it through the Digital Copier Feeder Tray and it emails you the PDF within minutes.

These are magizines and newsletters in book style formats. They would have to be taken apart to scan unless you flatbed scan all the pages individually.

I would pull out the staple and then scan 17X11 or 8.5 X 14 then manipulate through PhotoShop or Adobe to put back together.

It's not bad at all.

You can also do page by page through the Doc feeder.

If everybody would ante up and agree to scan a few, it would be done in no time

Okay, another stupid question from the noob!

Isn't all that technical stuff preserved on the thing called the "list Serve"? I should say that I actually have no clue what it is, how it works, let alone how to use it. Every now and again I seem to be able to participate in e-mail conversations about our cars with people.

Oh, sorry to the original question in this thread. I'm a rookie ZR-1 driver that bought on 12/16/04 and joined the NetRegistry in October 04(?). Yea I joined the registry before I actually bought a car because I didn't know anything about ZR-1's. It has turned out to be the best two decisions that I've made lately!

Scanning these has been discussed many times before. Most agree there would be a copyright infringement.

In addition to the time it would take, those of us that have these newsletters, etc. have a significant investment in them.

They would never be the same after you took them apart.
