Default Well...it was Virginia emissions testing time..again

Emissions testing is required every two years... the first year results were at minimum pass for HC in the 25 mph run (53 ppm limit and 53 ppm test reading)..fail any one of the test parameters and you fail entire test>>

Due to the HC reading I made the assumption that the injectors (one or a few) were not within spec or failing...thus changed out all 16 injectors. I have to say I was bit on edge for the test that occurred today... BUT take a look at these numbers>>>

They ran the test twice because they could not believe the results...said the LT5 was having better numbers than many new models. The drop in the HC was impressive and to me confirmed the theory of failing injectors.

That is great Michael! You have a finely-tuned, good looking machine there.

Mine passed with stock injectors no problem NV. 92.
Next year I might hand them the plates tell them to stick them. 230.00 to renew this year.
Ill take my chances

How much was yours last year?
My 90 was $92.00. I expect it to go up, but that seems high for a 92
When they passed this at the Legislature this year they said they would raise the tax 15%. What they did was raise the max depreciated value from 10% to 25% and applied the rate to this new value. Political Double talk for sure!

I had the same thing happen with original injectors vs replacements. Much much lower after the swap.

However, they went back up to borderline with headers and bullet cats.

No new models get a tailpipe test. I suspect they were engaging in hyperbole... While the Z does well in relation to the test standard, new cars are not in the same universe as far as emissions requirements.

Because I bought my Aurora out of state, I had to get it tested to register it (ordered it, and moved to VA while it was being built). Otherwise it never would have faced the sniffer either, as within 2 years they went to the scan tool requirement.

This is a 2002 model with the baby Northstar 4.0L V8

The results:
15mph
HC ppm Limit: 67, Reading: 0
CO% Limit: 0.37, Reading: 0.01
NO ppm Limit: 524, Reading: 1

25mph
HC ppm Limit: 65, Reading: 4
CO% Limit: 0.36, Reading: 0.01
NO ppm Limit: 475, Reading: 3

And that was an older emissions standard, they get tighter every year. The car was an NLEV at the time. Cars now probably exceed the testing ability of those state machines.
