This 1-4 Option was as known as Skip Shift and was a pure EPA fuel saving idea. GC
Actually also an emissions item. When we had to do emissions testing in Illinois Marc H discovered that during the 1-2 shift our cars got a HC spike which was enough to fail the car. The 1-4 skip shift solved that problem for some reason. When we used to do testing, on my '93 I would always have to switch back to my stock chip (which enabled the skip shift; as you know the skip shift can be eliminated by a programing change on the chip instead of using a plug). Passed every time --Bob

Back to topic drive your Z on weekends only. Way to exotic and rare to abuse her as DD.

Out of town for a week and this thread got busy! FWIW I flew back last night late, and after a full week outside in the sun with all the other airport commuters, the black Z fired right up and took me 35 miles home at a comfortable cruise somewhere north of 55mph. Still looks good too.

Easily disabled on a 90 by unplugging the CAGS solenoid. On later years you can do it with a chip upgrade.

There's a guy on FerrariChat with this as his sig line. I think it works here too.

Respectfully disagree, and I've driven in everything from heavy traffic to mountains to parking garages, to cross-country jaunts. Great car for every day. Hey it's a Chevy!

My favorite line in the thread.

Also the market has not been kind to these cars when compared for example to 911 of the same vintage, so you may as well enjoy it. And no machine likes to to sit around and not be used. I used to have an old Volvo with an analog in dash clock, it didn't work when I bought the car, but after getting the car running well and driving it regular the clock started working. If the car sat for a while the clock would stop working. So there you have it an analog clock from an 80s volvo is the perfect analog to driving a zr-1.

The Porsche 911 values higher than the ZR-1? Hard to believe this!

If you consider the turbo 911 to be the top of the line and therefore the ZR-1 equivalent the difference is staggering.

911s are fantastic cars too, and they have gone completely nuts in the last two years. I had a 79 SC as my only car, drove it every day too, and wow do I wish I still had it. Paid $12k for it, put 35k miles on it, sold it for $12.5k, cheapest car I've ever owned. Today it would be a near-40k car. Don't even think about early 911s, basically anything with chrome bumpers is a six figure car these days.

Daily hack at a rest stop today, on the way to Florida. Cruised along super-comfortable in beautiful weather, averaged 27.2mpg for the trip.
