Steve it will look real good I'm sure.
Gotta be something in that metal that is reacting to the paint. A good primer sealer would probably cure that. Are you doing the injector housings too?

It might be something in the metal. The previous owner cleaned it with something that left spots all over it that will not come off, hence wanting to repaint it. I was also surprised after pulling the plennum that there was mouse crap under it. Guess a mouse set up shop in there. Nothing chewed on though.

What color you going with on Powder Coat?
Since you are Powder Coating....I think you are only doing the Plenum....too bad you are not removing the Cam Covers and get all three done at the same time

This is Spray Paint.....

This is Powder Coat....

I am just going to get a color close to stock. The cam covers are more than I want to tackle at this point. Maybe this winter will do the cam covers as well as the ported housings and retune. Right now just getting it to a solid driver status.

I just polished mine with a fine polish and a foam pad...it had the etching from harsh cleaners that screw up these LT5's.

As far as the paint, I'd say dewax with a naphtha solvent them follow with rubbing alcohol.

I repainted mine with LPE LT5 paint with no issues. I did my cam covers on the car by pulling everything and securing everything away and masked the the rest of the car. I also masked the lines I did not want to disconnect and the bolt heads. This is with the plenum and injector housings off the motor. Trust me if you do the plenum and injector housings and not the cam covers you will not like the results.

Good luck!

Jim
