Just received and update. Father in law will be released from hospital Friday evening and transferred to St. Catherine's nursing home which is attached to the St. Catherine hospital in Waco. Also received a photo of him in hospital bed shaking hands with his newest grand baby. Shame for a 90 year old to have to go through this kind of thing. Shame for anyone to have to go through this.

Solved the puzzle of why no one could initially find him. He was in his wheel chair in the cafeteria watching the fire in front of a large picture window. The force of the explosion blew him backwards and towards the door. This tough old farmer and WWII vet turned the wheel chair around and kept going out the door as the roof had caved in and he could not go back inside. He was outside when an ambulance drove up. They saw him covered in blood and took him to Hillcrest hospital. This all happened before anyone was transported to the triage area of the community centre hence his name was not listed. Indeed it was two of his sons and two of his daughters who were working by flashlight listing names and moving injured from one place to another usually in the bed of a pickup trucks. The injured and deceased being brought to the football field and community centre.

Two cousins are firefighters and were first on the scene. We have not been informed of their status but word from other's at the initial fire said that they don't see how any of them could have survived the blast. Will just have to wait for formal notification.

This event will take a lot more time to determine the actual carnage that has occurred.

Wifey/Mary is an Emergency Services District commissioner here in Comal County and received the following from SAFE-D, an ESD training organization here in Texas:

"The fertilizer plant explosion in West, Texas (just north of Waco) claimed the lives of several emergency services personnel. The West VFD also lost several apparatuses in the explosion. The State Firemen's and Fire Marshals' Association of Texas is collecting donations for the West Volunteer Fire Department.

and specify "West VFD."

Or you can go to

for more information and/or donate ...

Any and all assistance would be appreciated at this sad time - Glenn
