dayco 89298 tensioner
Anyone ever intall a dayco 89298 belt tensioner? It looks the same except I think the spring is installed opposite:

Not that I can recall. I wonder if the photo is reversed?
Reguardless it would not hurt to ask if the part crosses to GM Part number is #10067479 which is NLA

It is about $35 at Advance, so I will special order it and see if it can be reversed or if it is correct to begin with. It sure looks the same...

I got the tensioner, and it is reversed and the tab on the back plate that keeps it from turning when it is attached to the block is different. However, if you are mechanically inclined, you can bust the new tensioner apart and swap parts out on your existing tensioner. Mine was squeaking making the engine sound pretty crappy. All the grease on it was shot/solidified. The new spring is stronger than the old one, but I believe in my case I could have reused everything and it would have been five with just the fresh grease. The pulley is also the same.
The only thing I would have done different in hindsight would be to use a waterproof grease as it is subject to grease washout due to it's design. Last edited by Blownrunner; 07-30-2013 at 12:13 PM. |
