Because of there experience with Aluminum engines. One of the best books to read up on the LT5 is The Hart of The Beast by Anthony Young

Brett: Right off ther zr1.net . because of small volume of LT5 engines, GM went outside to find someone to build the LT5. They chose Mercury Marine because of their reputation in building aluminum engines.

Thanks guys. I swear, I've scoured this site, and I remember reading that now, but I just can't find the answers when I need to!That looks like an excellent book. When was it written? I looked at a few on eBay, and they have awesome resale value for a book. Books are usually dirt cheap on eBay, and these are selling for $30.00! It must be pretty rare.Brett

The Hart of the Beast is still in print and can be found in most catalog sales for around $40 I'm sure you can also order it from a book store..Steve
