Default LT5 Cam Chain Tensioner

Just a question - what is the small bolt/grub screw on the back of the cam chain tensioners for?

Default Re: LT5 Cam Chain Tensioner

Tensioners are "cocked" in a compressed state when installed. The plug is removed from the Tensioner Housing, a tool is inserted until contact with the Tensioner. A tap to the tool will release or "fire" the Tensioner, releasing the inner, spring-loaded plunger.

Never reinstall a "fired" Tensioner after removal. Severe damage such as broken camshaft, valve to piston contact, bent or broken valves & resultant major engine damage.
