Default Fuel issue solved

Just sharing a little info..

Owner filled up his 1990 ZR-1 with ethanol free fuel and drove the car home. Ran great. Went out to move it the following morning and it would not start. It would crank, just not start.

Came in and I could get it to fire, but barely. I could hear the fuel pumps prime with key on.

Checked fuel pressure, only 4 psi.. pulled and replaced fuel filter.. no change.

Patched harness to switch to secondary fuel pump.. 5 psi at key on. Car would start, run about 3 seconds and die... no fuel from either pump..

New pump and sending unit assembly was in the car.. when I pulled the pump assembly, the hose from the Y to the fuel feed line fell off.. remember, brand new assembly in the car.. fuel pressure eventually blew the hose off the hard line..

The plastic hose clamp was positioned below the nipple! Replaced it with a stainless steel hose clamp.. fired right up..

So, don't forget to closely examine all hose connections, even with a brand new unit..20200514_094106.jpg20200514_094118.jpg

Nice catch Steve. Yup, never assume because you put a new part into a car that all is well, should a related issue arise.

SOOOO true! "NEW" means nothing . What matters is what you verify by testing.

It was already in the car. Probably few years old. I've got a "new" one in my personal '91 that I bought about 3 years ago.. likely one of the last ones around. Wasn't cheap! About $350 as i recall..

I modified a standard LT-1/ LT-4 unit on a '96 Procharged build. Went with high flow TI Walbro 285 (470 lph). Since our LT-5 runs on one pump until WOT demands kick on the second pump, I'm wondering if this setup would work for the ZR-1.. LT-1/ LT-4 fuel pump/sending unit assemblies are readily available..23285.jpg23411.jpg23490.jpg

Marc has an article in the latest Heart of the Beast about converting to a single pump (page 14, Issue 56).

Evan,

I definitely think this is an option! The 285 delivers more than enough for the LT-5.[emoji106]
