Thumbs up Headers

My black on black 91 from gateway classics should arrive sometime tommorow..

Have a few ideas of the mods I will eventually put on this car....Any opinions on an after market exhaust? Of course want to pick up some horsepower and make tha car breathe better..


Not looking for anything too loud or too expensive.....Have super comp hooker headers with 40 series flew masters on my 73 and yes,they sound a little too loud at times...


Appreciate all the info you guys are throwing my way so far..

for headers you're limited to obx, stainless works, and jeal if you can find them. exhausts vary, corsa flows well and doesn't drone it's not to loud at cruise but it barks under acceleration. If you like the sound it's a great way to go. B&b is another way to go, very loud, drones like hell, but it's the best flowing system you're going to find. OBX is similar to corsa.

Welcome to the madness! You'll find the LT5 responds very, VERY well to mods that increase air flow, i.e., porting, headers, X-pipes, etc. (up to 430+ rwhp is available for a fully ported and headers and tuned LT5: the "510" package which is become common place with a stock bottom LT5 with porting and headers and yet stock cams!)

You'll need to set aside a few $$ for a tune, or a "canned" (chip) e.g., one from Marc Haibeck or Corry Henderson. And, you might wanna ask whether the injectors have been upgraded to alcohol tolerant ones. (Pre-93s were susceptible to the insulation of the internal coil wiring dissolving and the windings shorting out.)

FIC has new stainless injectors in a kit with the needed gaskets, or you can contact Jerry's Gaskets to buy the gaskets and then Summit Racing for the Acell 150821s (it requires 16 of them).

Just a thought, but you might want to drive it for a while before installing after-market bolt-ons. Even in stock trim, it will blow the doors off your 73...ask me how I know!

Hey Paul thanks a lot....
Yes I am hoping the LT - 5 responds well to the mods..
I mean in my 73 I pulled out the stock L-48 and replaced
With a worked 350,aluminum heads,lunati cam ,
Electric fan,MSD ignition .....It's putting out 342 ft lbs of torque
To the rear wheels at 3200 rpm.....Had it for the past 12 yrs..

Looking forward to the ZR -1......NEVER see any on the road..

If you google Gateway classics corvette # 633 you can
Get a real good look at the car....

Tell ya a funny story - happened to ME!

Fresh rebuild on wife's 69 C3 L46; LT headers, cammed, lumpy idle: pretty frisky, or so I thought, especially with a 411 gear.

On a road tour with =Jeff= following me in his stock 375 hp ZR-1, I came to a stop before turning left on an open stretch of smooth road. I checked my rear view mirror and =Jeff= was just making the corner when I NAILED IT! I rowed through the first 3 gears; MAN that little SBC was really bellowing through the side pipes; snapping my head back as it was chirping the tires in second and third!

I looked up into the rear view mirror, expecting to see =Jeff's= ZR-1 scratching to keep up. Instead iy was as if I was pulling him with a very short chain - and =Jeff's= face was covered with a big grin!

I'm just sayin...You ain't seen nuttin yet! (and his was stock!)

Also another brand of header is Watson, although they will be used as well

Got new ceramic coated Stainless Works headers coming, but they have an EGR outlet on the front tube passenger side. What do we use to plug that sucker?? Saw 5/8 NPT cap on a Ford forum, but don't know if they are universal.

I found a small bolt to thread in and had my exhaust guy put the smallest of tack welds on there just in case I need to unscrew it. Find something like a cap screw with a small head diameter for cosmetic reasons. Something short like a header bolt that won't intrude deep into the tube.
