Tighten oil pan bolts
Hi,
I have a slight oil leak, and I want to tighten all of the oil pan bolts. I found a thread that mentions that you need to remove the 'k' brackets in order to get to the front bolts. I am thinking of buying two of the Race Ramp wheel cribs that will raise the car 12". Is this enough clearance to allow the brackets to be removed and get a torque wrench under the car to tighten the bolts? Will the brackets come off easily, or will they be difficult? Thanks, Ken |

Re: Tighten oil pan bolts
That should be plenty of clearance. Mine were not difficult to remove. There are two bolts on each bracket, 17MM I think but I may be wrong about that.

Ken, I did this last year when addressing an oil leak at the passenger side front corner oil pan. The issue I was having dealt with crankcase pressurizing. So I did do the K brace removal. I used jack stands. 12" doesn't sound like there's much room to maneuver under the car granted you'll have additional height from the ground clearance. My preference is using jack stands vs. ramps unless its a Kwik Lift.

Re: Tighten oil pan bolts
Hi,
Thanks for the updates. I will order a set of the 12" wheel cribs from Race Ramps. I see they are made in the USA, and not a far east country, so that is nice. A company in Belgium is the European distributor. I have a set of jack stands. I will use them to change the brake pads, but if I need to go under the car, I prefer something more solid holding the car up. Thanks, Ken |
