Totally agree! Besides after normal life expectancy (the second likely failure scenario), the most often a device fails is immediately upon being put into service (according to references on "MTBF" (Mean Time Between Failure). Can't say how often posts here (and comments from some 'mechanics' goes something like: "...so the (enter part here) was replaced and the problems still is there. So, it can't be (that part)).

Whenever possible, the best (only???) way to determine if a part is failing, is to MEASURE the bitch! Measure its performance before (to confirm an issue) & after (to confirm it is functioning properly). Where ppl get into trouble is making assumptions: assuming a part has failed, and replacing it w/o verifying its performance by direct measurement (if possible). Replacing parts 'until the problem goes away' is not only expensive, but w/o verifying (testing) one leave himself open to multiple failures by introducing a new twist, that - Never Ever Worked item - just adding to the complexity of the initial issue.

Good post. Ya beat me toit!
