Default LT5 w/ auto

Can I use a 700R4 trans with an LT5 engine. Can someone tell me what parts I will need? If not the 700R4, what trans could I use? As you can guess, I'm not knowledgeable of what this will require but with some guidance I will try.

Thanks

PM member PETE. He makes a tail shaft for an auto trans conversion and has done a few.

PETE is top notch!

I would recomment the 4L60E/4L65E trans
The 700R4 is not an electronic trans it has a mechanical kick down cable that will need to be hooked up to the throttle and you will need a governor that can shift at 7k rpm.
If you go with 4L60E trans here are the parts you will need.

Trans cooler & trans lines.
Electronic Control Unit (ECU) i use TCI Unit
Stock auto C4 L98/LT1 tailhousing.
Stock auto C4 L98/LT1 driveshaft
Stock auto C4 L98/LT1 C-beam
Either B&M or stock auto shifter.
Pricision Industries Torque Converter I worked with Pricision on the specs
just tell them you need a TC for LT5/ZR-1 and what stall you prefer
i recomment with lock up if you'll do street driving.
Flexplate (i have these) Just PM me.

If your going to run alot of power thru it let me suggest 4L80E trans
in this case it's alot of different parts.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

Pete

Pete, thanks for your response and your offer. I'm still in the planning stage and looking at necessary parts needed. I didn't think the 700R4 would work but wanted to be sure.

I'm not converting my '95 ZR-1, I'm thinking about swapping the 350 and 700R4 out of my '57 Chevy convertible for a '92 LT5 w/auto.

I dont think that the 700R4 cant be made to work. You would need to hook up the Throttle Valve cable (TV cable). 700r4's dont have a conventional kickdown, the TV cable also determines line pressure in the trans, so its adjustment is critical to trans performance. As Pete states, the high rpm shift governor would be required.

The 700r4/4l60/4l60e/4l65e/4l70e share many components dating to the early 80's. If you have a 700r4 use it, unless I'm missing something.

Precision Industries does make a great TC for these 700r4/4l60e transmissions.

CJ '57 Chevy sounds like a great project.

If you do the '57 chevy you won't need some of the parts i mentioned.
I thought you were converting a ZR-1 to auto.

Love to see pictures if you ever take on the project.

Pete, I realized you thought I was going to go automatic with the corvette that's why I said putting in the '57.

I'm a carb, dizzy, hammer and crescent wrench mechanic. My plan is to mock-up the engine/trans with the necessary components, wiring and start-up before attempting the swap. I don't know the condition of the motor so that will have to be checked.

I know I will need advice and guidance but I will have the insight of the brotherhood for help.

Will post pics soon

Pete, the pic of the trans on https://sites.google/site/peteszr1garage is that a 4L60E? Would you give measurements from the front of bellhousing to trans mount and one of total length. Looks pretty long and worried if it would fit in the X-member on convertible frame.
Thanks

The one in the picture is a 4L80E this transmission is about as long as our stock S6-40/ZR-1 ZF6 speed.
With the 4L80E my tailhousing you use stock ZF 6 speed driveshaft and C-beam,this is for ZR-1.

Here are some transmission measurements.
