Keep them coming.. I was at the Chicago Auto show and they have a special on the Escort plus they will take my old one in trade (from about 20 years ago)

so I am debating if I want one or not..

It was a false sense of security. Got lazy keeping my eyes open for possible traps.

I've got Valentine 1 in both my ZR-1s and can't live without it. It's saved my as* many a time. I like the arrows letting you know which direction the radar is coming from. I have an old passport in my 84 vette. I think any of the major name detectors are good I just prefer the V1.

I agree. Mine went off 3 times today. Great warning. The main unit used
to get too hot on the dash, so I mounted it on the rear view mirror using a "BlendMount"
and no, it still seems to work fine through the laminated windshield.
I have the concealed display mounted to the right of the valet
key switch. As Ferris Bueller said, "I highly recommend it!"

Not in the market...I think.

Two things I have found allow me to make the best time, and avoid tickets:
  1. Cruise control = the best assurance against a ticket. Set at under 5 over in city and just under 10 over on highway travel is "golden".
  2. A book I read by a retired LEO on how to avoid getting a ticket. Some of the more salient points were:
  • Never lead the pack! Like Dom said; always follow a speedster, never BE the speedster!
  • Don't do anything to attract attention, e.g., quick/often lane changes, no turn signals, etc.
  • Keep it under 5 over in city and under 10 over on the highway will get you a pass maybe 90% of the time.

But, if you DO get pulled over:
  • Slow down and look back over your shoulder and wave to the LEO to acknowledge his "request" you pull over.
  • Use your turn signal and pull as far off the road as practical to the officer's safety
  • Shut the car OFF, driver's window down, and BOTH hands grasping the steering wheel at the top and BE PLEASANT when spoken to.
  • Some officers will give a speeder a break if he can work the fact he has a relative or friend "in the LEO business". But, don't try to use their lingo - LEO's have their own and react badly to someone trying to pull a fast one over on them.
  • Above all, be pleasant, but don't try to befriend. In fact, don't say or do anything that might make you remembered later. DON'T argue! (There will be a time for that later!)
  • Delay... Traffic LEO's write tickets all day long. If you can get the appearance delayed once (or even twice) the longer between the ticket and the court appearance, the less the LEO will remember - UNLESS you do or say something at the time the ticket is issued that'll stick in his mind.

And one of my own: Never horse around where you could get ambushed!!

Oh, and another advantage of the C4s over newer Vettes: Things like speed, acceleration ( straight line or lateral), and braking (deceleration) are not registered in memory, or to be monitored via "On Star". Just a thought.

Just sayin....

V-1, I use it more as a reminder that you are being watched. Every time it goes off I check my speed even when running on CC. As to range while in Fla. on a flat stretch of road I've picked up troopers running radar many miles off.

In most cases if your going fast enough to get ticketed all its going to do is let you know time to pull over and take the heat.

My V1 has saved my bacon a bunch of times. Probably the most memorable one was cruising along I10 on my way home from buying the car, goosed it going up a small hill in west Texas, was up to about a buck fifty when the V1 started to chirp, hard on the brakes and crested the hill at about 85 just in time to see the Texas highway patrol pulling out to go after the guy in front of me.
My V1 and remote are permanently incorporated into my cars interior.

I have a Belltronics that goes off so often, I tend to ignore it.
