Excellent post Scott. I actually started this Thread due to our recent conversation on the CF where you stated the following about modding our cars.

Please don't see this post as a personal attack. It's not.

I was so shocked at your response that it got my curiosity going and I wondered just how many folks here modded their Z's and what they had done. Just wondered if I was in the minority about modding cars or removing secondaries.

Defintion of Kludge

Scottfab CF Post
I leave most systems alone for resale and for documentation reasons. Who want to buy an undocumented mess. See definition of "kludge"

I've fixed my secondary system twice in 15yrs. Easy as cake.

ALSO to be considered is the ability to remove the key if someone else drives it. This was the primary reason for GM to put it in and it is a good one.

Keep your LT5 and LT5. Don't make it into an LS5 or LT4.9 or whatever it becomes when you rip stuff off it.

Still to each their own. Hang fuzzy dice on your mirrior after you rip out your secondaries.

As long as it's high performance air that improves reliability it should be ok with them. It's when all the air is ripped out and nothing in it's place that they'd draw the line. Still there are improvements with ripped out air that would work:

Is not that called a Flat Tire

You use the word "ripped" a lot lately. Does that mean you do not use tools in your maintenance

I am not sure anything on your list is a modication...looks like an excellent list of maintenance items to me ......just saying

I try to be careful with my choice of words. If something IMHO is removed then it's "ripped". If it's altered and replaced then it's "modified". If it's later put back for whatever reason (like discovering it was useful after all) then it's "restored". If it's "jerry rigged" then it's a "kludge". If it's held together with bailing wire then it's "fixed"

ah but you'd be wrong. Everything on the list was modified not just fixed. In some cases the redesign was extensive, in others minor.
The list of simple "maintenance" is much much longer. For instance on the door chime I simply soldered a few cold solder joints. On the CD player I fixed the ribbon wire to the head. On the seat belt I re-tensioned the spring. On the brakes I used ceramic pads, on and on and on......a complete list resides only in my repair log which dates back to 1997. Most if not all of my mods were documented on the zr1netregistry.com page. Some weren't because I was not sure they'd be reliable. Since then they've proved to be by not having to revisit them for the same issue.

I "modified" my intake by "ripping" out my secondaries.
