Thanks for the link, Scott.

With regard to custom tips, I found this on their site. The pricing for 4 tips is not cheap; approx $300 for 4 tips (of the type listed - don't know if custom size tips would be more or not).

Stainless Works:

Quick Overview
Conical double wall 20 degree slash cut tip. 6 1/4" overall length, 3 1/2" body, 2 1/2" ID inlet Exhaust Tip. Can be clamped or welded in place. 304 s/s construction, hand mirror polished. The quality of our tips is far superior to the less expensive tips on the market. American Made! We can custom make tips in any length or diameter (3" body with 2 1/2" inlet, 5" long, for example). Fax a sketch of what you need to 440-543-9183. Price shown is per tip.

Those are the economics I concluded. The 4 Z06 tips w flappers are competitively priced even at $300. I got mine for $170 shipped so that was a no brainer IMO.

Sure but even $300 is hard to find a set for now.. Everybody wants them. Yes I have seen 2 sets on CF for around $300.. but at $300 for Z06 stuff, then $170 for mufflers then labor for install assuming you already have 3" piping.. it adds up pretty quick.

No doubt you got a good deal there and your system sure turned out sweet, Dom. While following your thread I struck out with 3 different potential Z06 muffler deals - sold before I could get 'em. So patience and resourcefulness is key I guess. I wonder if a 3 or 4 guys wanting to do build there own system could get SW to offer a more affordabe price for 12-16 tips in one shot?

Yeah finding Tips for a good price it tough.. I still want to see if a valve assembly can be built for a reasonable amount. I think it can.. but I will still look for a pair of mufflers and hope for a deal when I have the extra $$ to buy them.

For now I will stay with Corsa

Jeff,

Yes it adds up and I have outlined what the costs were which added up to ~$1000 invested in the system. I did it piecemeal so it didn't hurt as much. Also, I recouped about $400 of the added cost by selling the resonator and now the MF mufflers. For someone who already has the Xpipe, its less cash outlay this time around. However, the Dynomax mufflers are the Dynomax mufflers, so no joy there. You could save on tips by using what is already available to you like Pete did with the B+B. The fact is however, you still need to engineer the flappers and custom fit them to whatever muffs you use, which means measuring and spot welding and hanging and re-doing. Most of what needs to be done isn't eliminated by not using the Z06 tips. IMO, the tips actually make the process simpler and quicker.

Scott,

Yes it would be nice to have something of a group buy on tips. It would need to be a pretty good discount to be competitive IYAM.

Ok,lets do some math.
Pros & Cons

$300 tips & flappers
$200 Dynomax mufflers (2)
$100 Summit 3" X-pipe
$100 (optional) ceramic coat exhaust not mufflers

Use stock exhaust system, replace resonator with 3" Summit X-pipe,cut stock mufflers replace with Dynomax mufflers and use C6ZO6 tips.

Find a muffler shop to weld everything $200-$300.

Total $800-$1000
If you find parts cheaper, price could go as low as $600
Can spread the expense over time, buy as you go.

B&B all money upfront.
You will not have to worry about if B&B will sell you a part, imagine if you need to replace a muffler on that new system i wonder what the price for one muffler is?
There history shows they do not/will not sell parts you will have to buy a complete system.

Pete

Jeff,

You can come over to my house when you're "jonesing" for some exhaust sound.

My experience with B&B has always been good. I bought a system for my '95 from them, and later bought their X-pipe to replace the resonator. It took just one phone call and there was no begging required to get their X-pipe from them as a registered customer. Their X-pipe in 2009 cost me $325, so their pricing was in line with SW. But I have no doubt you are right in that I'd probably have to pay a pretty penny for a replacement muffler from them.
