Time for another California road trip. There has been a small rag-tag group of Corvette outcasts roaming California and beyond for over a dozen years now. We tend to do longer trips than shorter. Now we intend to find our way to the eastern edge of Arizona. And back.

From California a four-day trip is planned. Anyone is welcome to jump in and bail out as desired. This is not a sanctioned event, just a bunch of old guys driving and dining in the same general direction. We will not be in any rush to be anywhere. And you may crash (no pun) at night anywhere you wish. Corvette not required; but most of us currently have, have had, or have had to put up with someone with, a Corvette. Usually this is just guys, but wives and daughters occasionally join along.

The following is the general plan, subject to revision and everyone's suggestions. Target dates are March 7, 8, 9, & 10th. Contingent dates are March 14, 15, 16 & 17th. Will pick the weekend about the middle of February. Portions of the trip will be in rural areas with elevations above 9000 feet. Distances between gas stations will likely exceed 100 miles. And cell service will be limited from time to time. We will run a lead car and tail car with radios, just in case. Snow is a common occurrence at the higher elevations in March. But these dates are on the cusp of spring. If there is snow on the roads, plans will be altered accordingly. Only dirt surfaces that we may encounter will be parking lots and driveways although those with older cars sometimes run off into the wild. If major problems come up, we will have support in the Phoenix area and near Alpine.

Thursday Depart California or other lands afar to arrive in Tucson for dinner and drinks.

Friday Museum day. Puma Air & Space Museum, Titan Missile Museum, & if time, the Amerind Museum (history and art of the South West.) Then a short 2 hour drive to Wilcox for down time & wine. Going to a winery for the evening. Spend the evening there or there abouts. Road side hotel or something more interesting.

Saturday Driving day. Back East, it is told, there is a road paved over the "Tail of the Dragon". The hot asphalt caused the dragon to flail about spreading the road all about the hills. Well in Arizona north of Wilcox is the "Devil's Highway." Originally it was spur road 6 off of Route 66, hence marked Route 666. Breakfast first. Then up the mountains on US 191 for lunch. After, across to Show Low, or thereabouts via US 60 or if great weather, Highway 273. Exact road will depend on weather. About 6 hours driving time. Open to suggestions about where to hang our hats for the evening.

Sunday Back home. Maybe via Oatman to see the donkeys.

Post here or email to George@Borm.com with you interest.

George

George last time I went to Oatman lot of unimproved roads on dirt to get there. However that was like 15 years ago.
