Re: NO START on 2 ZR-1's

You'll have to first have a look and see what is not 'factory' looking wiring. You may see splices in some of the wires. You may see a factory orange wire (for example) that has a connector then...

Re: Questions about a 92 I'm looking at.

I was talking to a good Corvette mate of mine the other day who was just over in the States. His friend there in California runs a vehicle repair garage. He mentioned I had a ZR-1 and he almost...

Vehicle Production Line Procedures

Not too sure what forum to put this in, so I thought Id ask here.

I'm sure there would be someone reading this who has worked on an automotive production line somewhere.

I have a question - how...

Re: rattling with clutch

My 91 does a similar thing, not quite bolts in a can but a small perceived rattle. I have a ZF DS25 transaxle in another car that does the exact same thing in neutral. Id say its nothing to worry...

Re: Rear hatch release - won't

"gives up until it has rested" sounds like your release solenoid is on its way out, the switch is worn or the battery is buggered. Yes, it could be just an adjustment but the 'giving up till its...

Re: Headlight

The ones on my 91 did the same, I replaced them both at the same time. Interestingly my Lotus Esprit turbo SE headlights started doing the same, and when I looked at the motors, they are the same as...

Re: High Engine Temperature in Traffic - my solution.

Dyno, sounds like a good thing to be doing. I did the usual 'keep a few revs up when sitting at the lights' etc thing, so the pump can circulate more water - certainly helps drop the temperature. ...

Re: High Engine Temperature in Traffic - my solution.

Morning all.
John, 118 degrees celsius is 244 fahrenheit so the thermostat is well and truely open! It was an experiment that cost me nothing as I had the stuff sitting around the workshop. I...

High Engine Temperature in Traffic - my solution.

Hi People of ZR1 land.
Ive been concerned with the very high engine temperature when the car is in slow traffic or in town stopping at lights etc. I saw temps up to 118 degrees (as seen on the DIC)...

Re: Water pump bolts backing out? Huh?

Ive just found something similar on my 91. I call it a 'Monday Engine' - you know, the one that was assembled after a long weekend on the booze!

Ive just replaced my air conditioning pulley...

Re: No start situatuon

Ive had the same thing on my 91. Parked outside my workshop for a while, came back and tried to start the engine - nothing, no starter motor sound at all. I pushed it into the workshop, grabbed out...

Re: Collection of Early LT5 VIN, MM Numbers

Does anyone know how many complete production engines were actually made by Mercury?

We know the production cars is 6939, but how many other engines were made? I mean like warranty spares, crate...

Re: AC Compressor Clutch

So its not just my driving style then! Someone else has the problem

Re: AC Compressor Clutch

Failed compressor parts.

The first photo is of the compressor pulley. I refaced the mating surface as it was 'all over the place' and the hub would only be connecting with a very small footprint....

Re: AC Compressor Clutch

Just an update as to where Im at.
I machined up the mating surfaces of the pulley and the compressor drive today. They were out about 0.5mm and the mating surfaces were only touching on a few very...

Re: NO START on 2 ZR-1's

I had a similar problem with mine. Got it home and went to start it, and it was dead, no starter solenoid click, no nothing. Pulled out the GM service manuals and went through it. I found that...

Re: AC Compressor Clutch

Yep, I just replaced the bearing, its the only bearing in the whole clutch assembly.
Thing is, its one of those bearings that is running 'all' the time whether the AC is engaged or not. Like the...

Re: AC Compressor Clutch

I just pressed the old bearing outer, out of the pulley and put a new bearing in the pulley.

I didnt see a need to change the pulley as its in one piece. I would find it surprising though that a...

Re: AC Compressor Clutch

It was a rumbling, dry bearing sound. It would come and go .. then it went!

Im trying to think of what might sound similar but cant think of anything. If you have access to a bad alternator for...

Re: AC Compressor Clutch

Well the 'clutch' is actually a cast iron ring that is attracted to the driven pulley, by magnetism - there is a electromagnetic coil in behind the driven pulley that 'pulls' the compressor drive...

Ive just been down this road this week in fact. You mention the AC Compressor 'clutch'.

I am assuming you mean the part that is magnetically attracted to the belt driven pulley that enables the...

Thumbs up Re: LT5 Water Pump - Possible Diagnosis and Spectacular Compressor Failure

No problem! It would have been a decent sight had the pulley exited the car engine bay though!
The replacement parts arrived this morning - yay.
Just thinking about removing the water pump while I...
