AIR System questions?
Went to replace the T piece that joins the left and right side hoses from the exhaust manifolds to the Electric divert valve. Thought I would check to see if the check valves were operating correctly as per FSM. Started the car up, minus the T piece, and both left and right sides are positive pressure to exhaust. My interpretation is that they are a one way valve for fresh air to be pumped in. Not allow exhaust to be pushed out. Has Watson headers on it.
Is it an emission system that needs to be working ? or can I bypass it ? Cheers, Russell. 🇦🇺 1990. #2774 |
Re: AIR System questions?
I don't know the answer to that Russell but I bet Marc Haibeck would be glad to answer that for you is you shoot him an email. I would bet he has dealt with many AIR systems over his years. Although I am sure others might have an idea for you. --Bob

Re: AIR System questions?
The purpose of Air injection is to speed up catalyst light off ie get them up to working temperature. Since you have watson headers, do you have cats? When we designed these headers the retention of the air check valves was to keep the systems on the car functional and pass a cursory vusual inspection. If you do not have cats air injection is unnecessary.
