SYS MESSAGE

My 1991 # 1408 started flashing SYS in the mileage display as I was driving to work today. I had to put a battery booster on it, as it had been sitting long enough to have low battery. Other that that it started and ran fine, just that annoying message intermittently. I have not seen any threads on this message, and would welcome help on what to look for.

You can find out what it is with a scanner, or Gordon Kellebrew sells a set of grounding plugs that allow you to read them using the dash. I'm sure someone else may have a link to what ALDL points to jump to do this and use the dash to diagnose. It may even be in the FSM never looked for it as I have the plugs and a scanner..

Re: SYS MESSAGE

I often get the SYS message when my lightweight battery is in a marginal state of charge. Let your battery come back to life and it should go away - only real impact is it won't allow secondaries.

My answer was to keep it on a tender.

Cheers,

I've also experienced a SYS if the battery is low ...

Thanks everyone

It appears that this was a battery charge issue. After I drove the car and the battery charge was up, no more message. I learned a few useful things anyways. I'll keep the car on a float charger from now on.
