Weight savings with exhaust mods?

Screwing around in the garage the other day, lifting OEM exhaust pieces that I'm not sure why I saved and it got me thinking. We often talk about performance gains with exhaust mods but rarely mention weight savings. Has anyone ever taken the time to weigh any of the stock bits? Just one of my stock '90 exhaust manifolds feels like it weighs 40 pounds. I wonder how much weight I shaved from the car just by removing the entire OEM system and installing OBX headers and Corsa exhaust. Seems like it's gotta be 75-100 pounds net. Any thoughts?

Because of the above, I've been pulling the air pump and related. I need to get under the car to remove the rest of the air lines.

F=MA

Shedding 100lbs is like adding 10hp or 1mph in the 1/4 mile trap speed on mid 3000lb cars.

Never really thought about that Chris but the Corsa system is a little lighter than stock

Weight is one reason Crovette went w NPP exhaust actuators and eliminate the resonator.

So that's how the Mesa police punished you for doing that smoky burnout in their substation parking lot, Phil? They WEIGHED YOUR CAR?!

I went back and looked up an old article I wrote on exhaust systems for the original Registry newsletter in the late '90s. As part of my research I had weighed the stock (from a '93), Borla and Corsa cat back systems. All three systems weighed an identical 64 pounds. --Bob

Wow, that's shocking to me. My stock mufflers feel so heavy and I thought I remember the Corsa mufflers feeling much lighter, prior to being installed. Oh well, one area where I KNOW I shaved a bunch of weight is in the headers. The stock manifolds weigh a ton and the headers weigh almost nothing in comparison.
