Upper (shoulder) seatbelts - not tight?

All,

I've read through the posts, and see that there is an inertia pendulum that should lock the seatbelts under rapid deceleration.

On my tests, and in other cars, often pulling quickly on the seatbelt will prove the lock, but on my ZR1 no amount of pulling it quickly does anything - for both driver and passenger...

I'd believe that this is as intended - wouldn't expect both to be bad...

So question is: is an elastic shoulder belt normal? And do I need real deceleration (rather than just pulling it sharply) to get the seat belt hold??

I'm not looking for cinching (this works fine, and as advertised), just the surety that the belt will stop... when it needs to!

Thanks

Steve

Only know of a few ways to check, first would be a very hard stop from 25mph, other would require removing the assembly and checking the pendulum.

maybe someone else knows a better way.

I can tell you that on my seat belts if I pull them to fast when buckling they will lock.

Had the exact same thing on my '87 convertible. Only way to get it to tighten up was to unfasten and then refasten the belt. Would love to hear someone chime in with the cause so I'll know how to fix when it happens to my Z!

The take-up reel on my driver side belt is not wanting to take up the slack, when I buckle up. Any ideas?

I believe there was a recall campaign on this issue....although due to age it is no longer in effect.

Recalls for safety items never go out of effect.
GM was going to honor the 1990 seatbelt safety recall on my 90
2 years ago. I elected not to because they couldn't come up with the right color belts in their system. I located some NOS belts at a Chevy dealer, but they said they couldn't use them because they couldn't verify they had the "fix" of the replacement belts. I have to give them credit for trying even though it took a few months and many emails and phone calls. I ended up using used seatbelts. officially the recall is still open on my car. A Chevy dealer can tell you if it's open on your car. Do a search on the forum and you should be able to find the recall number.

I just use the 5-way restraints.

Anyone know if there was a recall on the 94-95's or know where to find a Torch Red driver side belt assy for same?
