LT5

what kind of reliability and longevity record do these engines tend to have? if they have probs what are they and if they hold together nicely for long time please let me know. thanks

I had a 91 I bought brand new and put 98,000 miles on it before totaling it. Only problem I had was a burntout fuel pump due to clogged fuel filter. Also, watch for vacuum leak typically caused by cracked vacuum lines under the plenum due to heat and age. I have a 94 w/ 55,000 miles and my intention is to drive until the motor gets tired and then send it off to DRM or Ligenfelter for a rebuild ( roughly $13,000 to $16,000 depending on the level of hp).

My '91 has 97,000+ and still runs strong. The typical "wear out" parts (alternator, starter, plugs/wires, and some gaskets) have all been replaced. It does use more oil than I think it should, but certainly not woth tearing the engine down yet. Everything I hear says the LT5 is a very tough engine.

I have 124205 miles on the engine and use it as a daily driver. On the way to work each morning I run it up to 105 to 135MPH (private road 5Mi.) just to get my adrenaline going and to prove it can still do it. It uses about 1 Qt. of oil every 700 Mi.It's also for sale for $18,000.00
