Secondaries
Someone on Corvette Forum asked the question
Who still uses their secondaries? I thought this would be a great poll question. So, who still has functional secondaries on their Z? |
Re: Secondaries
Definitely working secondaries for me. One of the coolest features a ZR-1 has. I even asked Marc to leave "high power mode OFF" as standard when he programmed my chip.
Thumbs up for working secondaries and the need to activate them! |
Re: Secondaries
Still use the secondary's on my 185,000 mile 90. The jolt when they open lets you know your driving a ZR-1.

Re: Secondaries
I like the secondaries as built primarily due to emissions standard in Japan and it is one of the cool features of the LT5 design. The day there are no longer parts to keep it working I will eliminate them and go from there, but I have spares of everything so it should be working in my lifetime of ownership.

I have them and keep them exercised every chance I get!

Re: Secondaries
My Jeal 368 does not have secondaries
My Raptor 374 Twin Turbo does... |
Re: Secondaries
I got secondaries and the crazy leaks keep me mechanically entertained.

Re: Secondaries
Fully operational. '90 with ~ 56,000 miles.

My 91 Turq has them. Still work perfectly at 93,000 miles, 368 rebuild about 15,000 miles ago. The engine builder retained them.

I have one ZR-1 with secondaries eliminated and other ZR-1s with completely functional Secondaries  |
Re: Secondaries
Yup Mine are still functioning. I turn that key every time I pull it out of the garage! '92 - 20kmiles

Re: Secondaries
Well, just to B different here, mine are eliminated due in part b/c they were smaller than the ports after I ported the runners. (37.5mm+). But, even before the porting, I had Marc eliminate that "feature" after my 2nd dive under the plenum fixing chit (leaks). I've NEVER missed them for a second. And, I love the instantaneous throttle response! Good riddance! Besides...Parts that don't exist don't cost much and they seldom break!

Re: Secondaries
1990 #254 still on and working great!

Marc deleted them on my 91 Z . Not complaining though . Don't miss them .

Re: Secondaries
Cool feature for a stock engine. Not much use for them after porting for a full boogie 416, so they are removed.

Re: Secondaries
Agree w Jerry and Paul. I never liked that split second hesitation built into the secondary port activation. Felt like turbo lag.
|
Re: Secondaries
Both my 1990 ZR-1's have working secondaries, which I intend to retain. My black car has run 11.7 / 118 in the quarter after having the plenum and injector housings ported, but retains the functional secondaries.

Re: Secondaries
Last time out on a 1/4 mile strip, 12.4 @ 121mph; stock block & cams. (sucky launch) - traps in 3rd gear (had to have Marc bump the limiter cutoff to 7500 to keep from experiencing cutoff before going through the traps - that OR shifting to 4th = no good either).

Re: Secondaries
That is great time Paul!

Re: Secondaries
I will no longer be mechanically entertained by my secondaries. GONE gone. Wired open and vacuum system removed. I will get used to not having the jolt when they kicked in as Gary stated. I am now relieved of leaky solenoid vacuum valve. I will not miss the pesky fun robbing code 61.

Re: Secondaries
Still working hard!! ZR-1 essence =D>

Re: Secondaries
You should have another category in the poll
- My secondaries don?t exist. |
Re: Secondaries
Mine are gone
Tuned by Marc |
Re: Secondaries
My 1990 still has them. I had the car to Marc in 2015 for injectors and they were good then at 69,000 miles. Has 87,000 now. Just finished 6500 miles to corvette at Carlisle last year! Still good!
