First a HUGE  thanks to Phil and Rich... what troopers... besides these lift parts being heavy (had to use an engine hoist to move the ramps and hydraulic jack that slides between the ramps) we also had the wonderful pleasure of good old Virginia humidity :-x.

Took us a solid 4 1/2 hrs (OK.. you young turks go do it in half of the time...right?) to install, but all works and went as planned.

A few pics of the lift>>

I can get about 5' clearance under the Z at maximum height which has to be done with the garage door closed...could get another couple inches if I move the fluorescent light fixture

I opted for the option hydraulic jack that slides between the ramps...already tried it out on the Z and works great...strongly recommend getting this type of jack.

I also recommend getting aluminum ramps (were optional with my lift) since the steel ones are heavy...Ellen is having mercy on me by getting me the aluminum ones for my birthday next month...

Lastly, if you have ceiling or garage door height limits might want to consider this...I have begun to mark on the column where the hydraulic control unit is locate for the max height for the lift ramps...bottom blue tape is for the Z with the garage door open and the top blue tape is max height with garage door closed. I will pull my C6 onto the lift and go thru the same exercise. (I have heard that a couple of our ZR buddies had forgotten about height issues with their lifts and...well not a good idea).

All is good and thanks to Phil and Rich for sweating it out with me.

Very very nice. I'm probably going to go with a two post myself. They seem to be going for about $1,300. But the four post ones are in the 3K to 4K range. I can do $1,300. I love the coated garage floor.

Michael,
Glad to of helped out, it was a pleasure to work with Rich and you and thanks to Ellen for fetching us lunch.
Just let me know when you tire of the jack.
You wouldn't want it laying around cluttering up the place.
I could probably find some space to store it on my lift.

Looks great Michael . You happy with it? Wished you would have said something, or maybe I should have :o, about aluminum ramps. Mandatory IMO. When I bought both my lifts, I only needed one set of ramps, so the guy took my two (2) steel sets & swaped me straight accross for one (1) aluminum set. I though that was plenty fair :).

Side note: Went & weighed one (1) ramp, FYI Michael. 16.2LBS., for one (1) aluminum ramp .

Oh yea Ryan... steel ramps 53 lbs each as compared to 16-18 lbs for the aluminum ones...guess what is on order ;)

Michael,
Was a great learning experence for me and the things I need to consider when installing mine. As alway, I learned a lot from Phil. Got to swing by your buddies garage tomorrw...found the hoist handle in the back of my truck this morning  DOH! Thanks again for lunch!

I really wanted to get a lift but I think a 2 post is the best way to go, but I looked at a 4 post and my garage is to low for a 4 post, but its too low for a 2 post as well.

But Im wondering who manufatured yours?

Saaaaaweeeet :-) Very nice

How much room do you have under your Z for maintenance? Is the lifts main purpose to give you one more parking spot?

Did you have the link to those step by step directions on the lift setup?

Thanks

Height of the columns was of major concern... could not do a two post lift due to ceiling height (would have had to cut holes into the ceiling drywall to install two post lift)... so I needed a four post lift that had columns that were 84" and that would allow 1 1/2" clearance as the garage door was raised. Many four post lifts have 86"-88"+ columns and then I found the Direct Lift had the dimensions I wanted (column height is 83 1/2" which includes the cable adjuster nut).

Also the more I read about lift certifications (or lack there of) that came important too...Direct Lift (and Bend Pak lifts) have all the newer certs including 3rd party certifications>>

Yep...a nice addition but once you have a lift (this lift replaces my earlier Snap On scissor style lift) you wonder how you did without one.

Rich...check your email.

Height under car... close to 5' when at its highest position (meaning with mechanical locks engaged)

My primary intent is to use the lift as a service lift... as of this stage can not get my C6 under the ZR (C6 is kept in my neighbors garage since he only has 1 car), but with some modifications to garage door and ceiling can accommodate the lift as a two car storage lift.

Hi Michael - That lift looks great! That is every detailers dream to work in a garage with a lift. :D

the alum ramps are a great idea. I need to do that

I've been "stacking vettes" and love having the lift.

trying to do a garage project for a bit more room. if you all know any good builders and concrete folks in NOVA please let me know.

I'd like to have both a 4 post and a 2 post. they both have nice advantages.

thanks!
