Brake Fluid

When I had local Midas flush the brake system on my 84 Z51 after 6 years of use, about a week later master cylinder went bad.
I know fluid in my 94 is at least 9 years (most likely older since I bought the car in 2000).
Need your consensus. Should I go ahead and have it flushed? Or take the attitude "if it ain't broke don't fix it"?

Fluid needs to be changed. It holds water. Your 84 doesn't have an ABS module. The Z does.

Alright. I guess I will take it to my mechanic next week. I hope the master cylinder survives this...

I doubt fresh fluid is hard on the master cylinder. Perhaps it was the way in which they changed it?

I think it was pressure fed and each bleeder opened until clear fluid came out.
At least that is what I recall.

If there was corrosion in the MC bore and they pushed the pedal to the floor past normal travel it can wipe the seals out pretty quick, but wouldn't think they would of done that with the press. method unless they compressed the calipers and reseated them later.

But then maybe it needed replaced anyway.:dontknow:

Make sure to read the FSM for the correct bleed process.

For both our 88 Z51 and the 91 ZR-1 the order is non-intuitive at RF, RR, LR, LF. When the new M/C went in and still the pedal was mush we finally looked and saw that. It made a big difference.
