I know this debate has raged for a while, more so now that the Hurst is hard to find - but I just installed the Hurst in my Z, and I got a good deal on a used B&M Ripper, and looking at the Ripper that arrived today, it looks like it replaces the entire pivot mechanism in the shifter housing. I find it a little odd that everyone seems so biased towards the Hurst, yet there are people who seem fanatical about the B&M. I used to have a Ripper on the T56 in my Camaro, and loved it. Had a hurst in my '01 C5 and '94 C4, and those were nice too, a little more civilized I guess, though less mechanical-feeling. If anyone has 2 cents to throw in, I'm all ears.

from what i have heard you have to modify the b and m shifter to have it work correctly. it does have a shorter throw though . i like bill bs,modified hurst shifter ,works so perfect it should be a sin

I'm very pleased with my stock shifter modified by Bill Boudreau. It has the same feel of stock but with a very noticable shortened throw. Bill cleans up the mechanism for overall smoother operation, shortens the handle 1.3" above the fulcrum and lengthens it 3/8" below. His modification retains the factory reverse lock-out.

I had a B&M shifter on my 94 convertible it was very precise and you could beat on it all day.
But on the ZR1 the shifter is just so smooth; I’m going to leave it alone and live with the longer throw.

I'm going to get his modded stock shifter one day too.

For the modified lift-ring type ZF shifter figure on $230 plus core return
of your original shift lever or $150 core charge if you choose to keep your
original shift lever.
That was the email info I got from him when I inquired

I have a B&M in my 95, came with the car so i don't know how an OEM one feels. The B&M is very stiff to shift, need a lot of force to shift it. I don't know if this is normal or not but i find it get tiresome when in traffic.
If this does not sound normal, please let me know and if there is a fix or a way to make it a smoother shifter.

Do you mean he will redo his stock shifter, or the B&M one?

Rick,
Did you notice any difference when you drove my car? Personally I love the Hurst, but I have only heard great things about the B&M

Dave, your is a lot smoother than my B&M. I do think we could have gotten a little more AIR with the B&M :pray:mrgreen:
