I finally had time to pull the valve covers off which was the only thing keeping me from taking everything to the powder coaters.

your cam covers look just like mine always have theres a litte wear on the cam covers but its normal.
The foam is from you PVC system thats where those tubes plug into.
I have always removed the brittle pieces that fall apart and put it back in,
Limey sells the foam or he used to have some dont know if he does or not anymore but to expensive for me to replace mine:mrgreen:

In your video, I couldn't quite make out what you were saying when you talked about removing the covers...did you or did you not remove the brake booster? I visited Marc H. while on business in Chicago last year and during a tour of his shop we talked about cam cover removal...he said he could get them off without removing the booster. But everything else I read or hear about says the booster has to be moved out of the way. That's why I'm asking.
Are you having your parts powder coated locally in the Houston area? If so, can you recommend someone?

God bless you! In those temps & humidity conditions you must have been spent for sure. I hope it all goes back sweetly & runs & looks great!
Nice set up in the garage, too! I'm envious of the shop air!
Just curious. I've done a few sb timing sets over my yrs of driving and why is it that the passenger side is always tighter than the driver's side of the chain?

Billybaloneey I had to completely unbolt the brake booster to move it aside. There just isn't enough room to get a 3/8 drive flex handle with the T-40 on it in there. I'm taking everything to a local place here in Houston http://precisionpowder.net/ I'm just going to go with the original aluminum oxide finish. They quoted me $200-$250 to do the plenum injector housings throttle body and air horn coolant inlets ect. I asked if they can also fill in the lettering but they said no. But they work with a guy right next door that does all of there air brushing work and he can do it. So it will probably end up being in the $300 range.
And I'm guessing the reason the slack in the cam chain is on the drivers side of the car would most likely be (just a guess)because the crank spins in a CCW rotation which would make sense.

Is that cost with you doing any prep work?

Is that cost with you doing any prep work? I assume they will vat them before powder coating and baking them.
