I have a four post lift on order and now looking for a nifty lift system (allows car to be lifted from four post rails so to remove wheels etc)... basically is a air bag jack..saw them over at the GT40 gathering Glenn invited us to. Need manufacture info/link... of course greatly appreciate any help on this. Have Google/Bing etc and no luck.

I have the 3500 # jack and love it . I was told it is much sturdier than the air bags. The salesman said that unless I have a exact reason for air bags to go with the jack.

Here is the jack that I got to go with my BendPak lift:

I am pleased with the utility that the rolling jack adds to the four-post lift. Tire changes are easy using this setup. I can change my rears to drag radials in about 5 minutes.

During the clutch replacement job I did recently, the rolling jack was used to support the engine, while a scissors jack on the jack bridge supported the transmission. Very easy setup!

Here's another pic of the rolling jack supporting the engine:

The only drawback of the scissors jack I bought is that in the DOWN position it's top is higher than the deck level just enough to catch the air deflector on one of my cars. I plan to put a thin addition to the deck surface to solve that issue.

The jack fits between the decks of the wide version (HD9) of the BendPak lifts. The wide version is the one I recommend, if you have space for it.

Come up and see the setup I have.

Jim,
I like the scissor jack(am looking at the Direct Lift Pro 3500)... did not think about the front air dam hitting...the ZR-1 has about 4" clearance (bottom of air dam to ground) but my C6 (is lowered) has about 3".

Toyvet1... can the lift pads remove (assume yes) and if removed how much do you gain in reduced height in the down position. These two pics suggest reduction would go from 3 1/2" minimum to 2" minimum>>>

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b79/MRBLU/TPPROJACK-3500-6.jpg

No???

Thus one of the advantages of the 2 bag air jack is that it minimum height is 1 3/4" above the ramp (jack tray is ~4" deep)

Michael,
What lift did you end up purchasing?

I had several critical limitations... width space available in the garage and height of garage door in the open position. Also I wanted one that had gone thru the newer 3rd party certification process (too much garbage out there and did not want to be under a 3000+ lb car with a iffy lift [-X ). What I came up with is the Pro Park 8S (sold by Direct Lifts and Gregg Smith Equipment)>>

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b79/MRBLU/PP8S.jpg

8K lb rating and comes with ramps, jack tray, & casters (lift does NOT have to be bolted to concrete).

Michael,
I you like we can muster up a working party to help set it up.
Jim and I are old hands at putting lift kits together.
All we will need is some cold beer and a cherry picker engine hoist from the local tool rental.

Yes the pads are removable. my 79 has about four inch ground clearance and I can drive over the jack. Ill be outside later and will measure the clearance when go out. Ill try to get pitcure of the 90 on the lift.

Thanks all...as usual you guys are soooo informative

Phil... wow what a great gesture and yes but have to ask you something..can this lift be put together without the 'cherry picker' host if I have a couple young strapping young guys there (meaning my son and a couple friends...sorta a pay back since I am giving my Snap On lift to my son)..???

I guess if its someone else's back involved doing the heavy lifting it may be worth a try. However, for safety sake I would be careful, those ramps are very heavy. In my case I also needed the cherry picker for removing the lift from the delivery trailer.

Oh..to remove from the transport I have a BobCat with forks to do that..was hoping after that we could do with people power... yes or no to this approach?

Michael,

I assembled my lift with just one helper, my teenage son. I had to get a little creative in the use of some dollies, but it was not hard to do.

Did you get an 110 VAC motor?

I will be glad to come help put it together.

The rolling jack I got looks like it will not work on your lift. Here is a pic of my jack (black paint) with its rollers sitting on the deck lip edge.

You can see that there is not much clearance to the air deflector.

Lift doesnt need to be bolted to floor but after a couple weeks I decide to bolt it down . I figure I can unbolt it if I want to move it. The lift is MUCH sturdy when secured to floor.

Three of us put it together in about three hours and another two hours to level it. Make sure to have a good level, I found a digital was much easier to use.

You have to hold things real steady while stabbing the ramp bolts in the cross members so I would play it safe and go with a cherry picker or perhaps you could use the Bobcat for this purpose. They don't cost much to rent for a day and could save you a strain or two and maybe even a finger. I have a set of chains that work perfect with one.
Capital Rental has them http://www.capitalrentals.com/equip_info.asp?id=25310-00000

Here is a CF post I found useful:

Phil... you convinced me to rent the engine hoist...reserved one for Aug 14-17 (weekend but only charge for 1 day's rental).

Jim and Toyvet... decided to go with the Direct Lift Pro Jack 3500

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b79/MRBLU/PRO-JACK3500-5.jpg

With the lift pads in place minimum height is 3 1/2" BUT with pads removed only 2" height...that works perfect for the front air dam issue.

Thanks all for your help! Phil and Jim... will August 15 (Sat) or 16 work for you all...and yes I will provide libations and food...

Hey Guys,
With all you guys that have 4 post lifts...how high is your garage ceiling? I have been looking at a Jim's and the one Michael is getting but with only a 9' ceiling, I don't think a lift will work for me. Damn, I will only be able to stand upright under the car

Depends on what goes under it. I have a 10' ceiling and that is more than enough for working under the car and stacking it over my Audi A6 Quattro which is 57.5" high

Mine is a 9'2" (110") ceiling... quite sufficient for working under the car. I am not particularly getting the lift for stacking cars...although I think I have room to do that with the two Vettes since both are under 48" H (plus you add 5" for the lift deck thickness)....I am sure I will be finding out soon ;)

My ceiling is 9 1/2 feet. With my ZR-1 at its highest point, I can store a car underneath that is up to 57 inches. That leaves about 4 inches between the roof of the ZR-1 and the ceiling.

Hmmmm...I may have to take another look at these lifts. Can't stand crawling around on the ground anymore

Great Phil  I will have Galen (my son) and a friend along with an engine hoist. Rich..your welcome to come on over and help and/or just watch. Not sure how many it will take us to put this thing together...we will need at least two sidewalk superintendents :-D

Lets start at 10 am on Saturday August 15

This is all very good

Michael,
Not that it matters much now since you're all set with your hydraulic jack but here is some info on a pneumatic air jack that you initially were asking about.
