Soo . During a recent trip to the NCM I go into the store. The store at the end of the Museum tour. Looking to buy some stuff for the folks at home. Where I spot some thermal cups. The cups are nice with tight lids but the price was 19.00 , ahh what the heck with my NCM membership it's about 16.00 and it is going to a good cause. When it was discovered that the cups were made in China. So those cups go back and I strated looking at another style cup , this time noticing that these cups were also made in China. Hmmmmm (blood pressure control here). Now over to the T shirts where again on the tag is printed made in China. Now I have wanted to get a nice Corvette leather jacket . So in a last ditch effort to give the NCM some of my hard earned money I check out the leather Corvette jackets. You guessed it .....made in China again.
Sorry but this American doesnt like buying much of anything that is made in China. Think about it. In the American icon "Corvette Museum' all the merchandise on sale is made in China. WTF is wrong with this picture ?

I hear your but its our fault. We are in a global economy dont beleive me just look at the finanical markets when we started to fail the world failed as we are interconnected. The problem is us, we demanded cheap goods with a certain amount of quality and when we could not meet demand at that price point we shipped all those jobs and products overseas.

Did you know the richest woman in China made her billions on our trash? She found a niche by asking all those empty cargo ships coming back to China after offloading all their goods in the US to load up with our recycled trash which she then makes into boxes in China to ship (You guessed it) more crap back to the U.S.

I here you Frank but its the U.S. fault not much is made here it seems, even our cars sadly. GC

"Oh you think thats bad!" Well check this out. We get these valve castings from a customer who wants us to get rid of any raised lettering on them that mentions they were made in India or china so they can put a made in America sticker on them. So I chuck them up on the Lathe and do it. What a f***ing lie. Thats not the first time thats happened.

Yep, it's an unfortunate reality in today's world. And yes, it is our fault, cus we want everything for really, really cheap, and we want it NOW. America dug it's own grave in this respect because of our greed. If more people could realize that true happiness doesn't come from material possessions, or depend on some external circumstance, we would be a lot better off.

Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with buying stuff and enjoying it, but when you put that ahead of your own financial stability (i.e. almost everyone in America is in debt, people using their houses as piggy banks, etc), you end up where we are now. And it more than likely will get worse before it gets better. It's going to take something drastic/tragic to wake America up out of complacency, it's unfortunate, but true. They don't put a guardrail up until a family of four drives off the cliff.

Patriotism is a nice thought but it looses to the all mighty dollar every time.
I'm not a big fan of Japanese cars either. I'll buy american and european cars before I'll buy Japanese. There's just something treasonous about buying something from a country that has historically copied our technology, added a few more buttons, repackaged it and then turned around and sold it back to us that rubbs me the wrong way. Now they own the market. And they didn't have to develope any of it from scratch themselves. Just steal it from us. And its to late to change it now. The ball was set in motion a long time ago. The young people today are just a bunch of zombie gamers that don't have any clue whats going on around them and have no sense of history. They are our future. We are done for. Heading for one world government.
