I alwyas get the inlet/ outlet of the Heater Core mixed up.

One line connects to the Surge tank then to the heater core.. the other one is the heater core to some place on the motor (I think)

I was referring to the Surge tank to heater core hose

Yes, it is the dual hard lines and hoses. Sorry, I can't post a picture maybe GC can if I send him one. It is leaking at the crimp of the hose and metal pipe. Similar to how the oil cooler hoses leak. Surprisingly, the nipple which is plastic is fine. The nipple is the usual weak spot on these rigs.

Pic not needed since we are all on the same page.

which crimp end is leaking? end closer to the heater core?

I wonder if you could modify the hose to have the -AN fittings..

Might could modify, problem is the condition of the metal pipe under the hose. Concerned about rust level. Haven't pulled it yet for good reason. Let's just say it would be easier to do with a new part.

Understood..

Next question (sorry) both lines bad or just the one?

I'm not trying to be a wise guy, Greg....but isn't the metal part of the assembly made from aluminium? I would think that if the cooling system received even somewhat marginal maintenance that the metal would be okay to work with.

JMHO.

Tom, of course you are a WA, but not all of us were first owners like you. I am reminded of the oil cooler hoses. Something about leaking at the crimps. Unless I find a new unit, I will be in the making new hoses and crimping business. Not my first choice.

Thanks for not being sore at me!

I can't remember where I saw / or heard but some one recently had the same issue at the machine crimps or at the plastic ends or both. Marc Haibeck told them to cut the crimps/plastic ends off and use hose clamps to re-configure the whole assembly. I may have over heard that at BG this yr?

I saw that piece on e-bay & was thinking of bidding. Then I remembered the answer from Marc. I figured that if it came to it I would just re-run it using heater hose & ideal clamps as a replacement for the entire OE assembly. I know I just suggested the "backyard / shade tree" way, but mine is never going back to the showroom anyway.

I'm a second owner too:mrgreen:...the O.O. changed the coolant and oil every year. I was lucky as it only had 7400 on the clock when i got it. I guess I'm an "almost first owner"......I couldn't afford to pay attention when these cars were new!:sign10:

I had in mind a new set of hoses so I don't become a hose "expert" but even if I fixed mine, I don't think I could go the butcher route. Big Pita is removal and reinstalation and of course while you are there, a new heater core is in line. The horror, the horror !!!

Guys, this hose assembly virtually never fails. The $7 plastic nipple sometimes does but it is available. If you are holding a new one, this is your chance to sell it. I would bet you will never need it. I would appreciate the help and I will make you happy with money or parts or both. Thanks to those you have offered help in finding a new one.
