Hi guys,
i have a problem, my fasten belt light is always on (cluster light)
I read on manual to check gray and white connector on CCM.
Now, what is the shortly method to find the CCM?
I try to dismount the part below the steering wheel but i don't find it...
Someone can help me???

Thanks in advance

Hi Max, I really don't know if all the ZR-1's are the same, as I have a 90. I would think that the CCM would be mounted in the same place on all the yrs.
Inside or behind the center cluster, behind the the airbag control box is where the CCM is mounted.

You say the seatbelt symbol is lit up on your DIC? Is the INFLREST light also lit up on the DIC? If yes to both, then you will have to check the airbag sensors mounted on the frame. If you have the both lights lit up, then the sensors have lost their grounds. Look over this link.

That link talks about what I think is going on with your car.

Hello Tom...there's only the light on the cluster. The "inflrest" light never come on. I have think that can be the seatbelt switch work bad. It could be??
I can put a wire in both hole to close the contact on the switch and look if the light goes out. It's a good idea??
I have a '90 Z too...But on manual the location is "behind center of I/P carrier".

There is a method to control the CCM errors?
By the ALDL connector???
Thanks a lot!!!

The previous owner removed the bulb as there was a airbag fault. Replace the bulb in the DIC panel. And then troubleshoot the SIR system.

Ok Jeff,
i'll try to see if the bulb has been removed...How i can troubleshoot the Sir system? There is to connect some PIN of ALDL??
Thanks

Hi guys,
this morning i replace the bulb..the first owner's remove 4 bulb!!!!!
When i replace it the "INFL REST" come on, i do the test and i have the 16,26,42 error...I clear the chip and the light goes out. I run the car for about 10 miles and the light never come on. But now, sometimes, come on the "SERVICE ABS" light (before the bul was removed).
How can i test the ABS chip?
Also the "LOW OIL" light come on (before removed too)but the oil level is good.
Thanks for help!!!

Max,
The ABS pin on the ALDL is pin "H", ground that one and it should display some of the codes.

There are codes, according to the FSM, that this "grounding method" will not show and that a TECH 1 is needed.

If you need the steps to clear the codes let me know.

I don't think the 90's have a "low oil level" sensor? If it's the "Low Oil Pressure Warning" then the sensor is most likely bad. That is the sensor that sticks straight up next to the oil filter.

Tomorrow i'll try to check the pin H on ALDL...
The "LOW OIL" light is under the "SELECTIVE RIDE SERVICE" light.
I see the owners manual and the electrical manual and they don't speak about that light!!!
I think that is a predisposition for other cars (other years)...I change 2 years ago the oil pressure sensor, the other one work bad....
Tomorrow i'll let you know....
Tom where i can find a tech 1??What's that???
Thanks Tom:cheers:

The low oil light cavity on the 90 ZR-1 DIC does not need a bulb. Since it has no oil level sensor.

As far as pulling codes via the ALDL with the paperclip you can. There are 5 hard failure codes you can not get via that method. You need a Tech 1 or Tech 1a. Most people will have the basic ABS codes.

The "SERVICE ABS" light came on in my '90 last month.
After driving it a little while the light eventually went out and has not come back on.
Drive you car a little before spending too much time trying to diagnose the "SERVICE ABS".

Hi jeff,
thanks for information, tomorrow i remove the bulb of "LOW OIL".
I have think that wasn't necessary...
I'll try to do the test tomorrow to see the error on ABS...
Jeff, the "TECH1 or TECH1A" where i can buy it?It's expensive?
Thanks!!!!

Hello tccrab,
i drive the car for about 10 miles but wasn't there any light on...near at home the light was on...i stop the car...run again the car and the light was out...For this i want test on ALDL, i want see if there are some errors...I think that if the light come on there is a reason
Thanks for your advise:)

Hi Max,

32 = RR toothed wheel Frequency error

36 = LR toothed wheel Frequency error

I think the issue maybe that the face of both sensors are dirty, or the electrical connectors are loose or wet maybe or the teeth on the rear spindles may have collected brake dust. It seems to me that those codes are indicating that the ABS system is getting some signal from the rears but that the signal maybe be degraded due to dirt. These codes do not seem to be indicating any broken parts as a final answer.

Let me do more reading in the FSM and I'll post up more. I just wanted to get this posted up as a beginning point, Max.

Okay Max, the FSM diagnostic charts says to check:

No dirt build up on the teeth and the face of the sensor.

Make sure that the sensor's hold down bolt has the proper torque, 10 N-m.

Make sure that the sensor O-ring is not broken or otherwise damaged as it will cause the sensor to be too close or too far to generate the correct signal.

Make sure the the wheel bearings are not beyond the allowed run-out.

Clearing the codes: Pin "H"
1.) turn ignition off.
2.) ground pin "H".
3.) Turn ignition "ON".
4.) Wait for codes to begin flashing.
5.) Unground pin "H" for at least one second, then ground pin "H" again. Do this 3 times within ten seconds. unground, ground, unground.
6.) Wait at least 15 seconds. Ground pin "H" to see if 12 flashes. If yes to 12, turn ignition off. If 12 is not the only code flashing, then repeat from step 1.

You just did thank me, Max!

I bought my FSM, Factory Service Manual, from Helminc.com.....I bought it when I bought my Z almost 6 yrs ago.. The topics are covered in the book that you are waiting for, it's the thick book "1990 Corvette Service Manual".

I wish you sucess in resolving the ABS issues. My first guess would be that brake dust has built up on the teeth and the sensor face. It's just an "induction" type of sensor system. If too much brake dust builds up it will not give the correct voltage signal. The correct gap for the sensor is pre-determined by the mounting system. There is no gap to set with a feeler gauge. You put the sensor in it's hole, and tighten the retainer bolt to 10 N-m and that's it. That's why the dirt, o-ring and wheel bearings are listed as suspects for causing those codes.

Got a shot of the reluctor ring (gear teeth) on the axle? They are most likely chewed lightly and the sensor can not pick up the teeth. Also how are your bearings?

Very nice question Jeff...i have take a shot on the right wheel some month ago but i think that problem is a old problem (the bulb was removed on DIC).
There's a way to control the rear bearing? To know if replace the bearing?
