View Full Version : ZR-1 Tires
Folks:
In perusing the "other" forum, I note that many of the C6 Z06 guys are raving about the Nitto NT-05 tires. I now note that these tires are available in stock C4 ZR-1 sizes. Here is some info:
Nitto NT05- Max-Performance Street
The NT05 is a Nitto's most aggressive non-competition street tire which is based on the Nitto NT01 race tire technology but designed specifically for maximum street performance.
Features:
- Large continuous center rib and big outer shoulder blocks provide a large contact patch for dry performance and cornering.
- Specifically formulated tread compound and reinforced internal construction provides crisp turn-in and excellent steering feedback
- Reinforced tread blocks and large continuous center rib provide rigidity and stability under braking

I was going to try 05 for street next from what I've heard also, the 01's have been treating me good and if the 05's stay in stock as well as the 01's have been it would be another plus.

I was looking at those tires too. Here is Socal we only get rain something like 5 days a year so summer tires are perfect.

With the exception of a couple days every August, I don't think those Nitto NT05s will have much of a market out here in the Great Pacific NW

I have heard excellent comments about the Nitto NT05 and when I was looking at replacing the GY runcraps on my C6 they were not available so I went with the Nitto Invo and am extremely pleased with the tires>>

Those are Nitto Invo's on that blue C6. Nitto dosen't make a Invo size for our car's :icon_scra
The NT05 would be a real challenge in the rain.

Correct...my point was IF the NT05 were available at the time I probably would have gone with those..regardless Nitto makes a fine line of performance tires but like all so called extreme performance tires they have limits... rain being one and low temps being the other.

Nick,
Thanks for sharing and the timing is perfect. I need some new tires to replace the now old and hard, with no traction at all Pirelli P7000s on my stock wheels. The P7000s came on my Z when I bought it in 2003 so they are way over due even thought there is so much thread left. I was really considering drag radials and will have to research my best options.

Michael, I'm going with the INVO's on my Z06. Thanks for posting the pic.
Those of you who don't really see rain in your driving will really like the NT-05's I think.

The spec out about 200 less at discount tire than the GS-D3 shipped from tire rack.
But they have a tread depth of 7.2/32" and the GS-D3 is 10/32"
So they will wear out faster and may be more expensive in the long run. Just not sure.

of course the GSC's on my car now have craploads of tread left but are hard as a rock and 11 years old...so maybe a tire that wears out faster is a good thing...except for the NCRS types.

The one thing I place on the bottom of the priority list is tread wear...I want stick, bite and performance as #1. If I get 10-12K miles I am happy
