Sitting in traffic coming home from Bloomington Gold, somthing, really let loose clutch pedal is to the floor....(limp) and car was trying to lurch forward.
No fluids....I am guessing slave or throwout bearing....
Any thoughts?

Sorry to hear of the malfunction. Lee, just curious, did you buy one of those knock off slave cylinders ? I don't think it is the slave but if you bought one and it went bad, let us know.

I hate to hear that Lee. Unfortunately it sounds like the clutch fork may have sliped off the throwout bearing. Of course check to make sure the clip that holds your clutch peddle to the master cylinder rod didn't pop off and check the slave. But if those check out "THROWOUT BEARING". This has happened to me twice. The first time at 65,000 miles it just snapped in half. The second time it happened I think was because in the proccess of trying to stab the pilot bushing I may have gotten the fork cocked eyed. But if you have to, definately use a transmission jack and make some 12mm studs. Cut the heads off them. Its the best way to guide the tany in. Plus it almost guarantees that you stab the pilot bushing. Ever since I did it that way I havent had a problem and it shifts better than before.

Thanks, this will my first adventure with trans/clutch removal:mad: Ryans right. It could be allot worse. Like engine problems. If your one of the guys that do it for a living like Jeff Flint ,Corey or Mark H. then you can have it done in a matter of hours. But if you have a real job like the rest of us Hehehe! and you do this stuff after work or weekends then you want to take your time and learn as you go along.

Oh! Is THAT what I'm doin? Learning? Not to steal the thread, but you are so right about how long it takes the pros vs we weekend duffers! How long it takes anyone else to do such and so is very apparent (to me) that it has NO relevance in my case!!

Sounds like throwout bearing fell apart.

Yep! I knew it. It sounds like yours came apart worse than mine. Picture time.:happy1:
Also Lee check to see if the clutch fork dug into the bell housing where the slave rod comes through. Because when the throwout bearing breaks and there's no resistance anymore the slave cylinder will binde the clutch fork against the wall and dig into it. A die grinder will smooth it out perfect. And WB9MCW is right about the Fidanza. If you can affort to dish out $325 on a Fidanza and a good clutch disk or a more high performance clutch then it only makes sense to do it while your at this point. I'm sure glad I did.

rhisper, Thanks for all the help...not so bad so far and if I had done it before it would be failrly simple. Having -=Jeff=-, Pete, and Dominic assist has also been a big plus..
Not looking forward to putting the C beams back.
This job is much easier with the headers.....I bet cats get in the way.

This job is much easier with the headers.....I bet cats get in the way. Definetely not rocket science. Just allot of manual labor thats all. And it's a hell of allot cheaper than paying a shop to do it thats for sure. All of the chevy dealers around here charge $98 and hour for labor.

you are likely done already but the C beam plates make the job much easier and enhance the way the car drives by stiffening up the mounting points on the cbeam
I have a set ready to ship if you need em, $160 shipped out
they really work well and make the job much easier. perfect time to put them in
PM me or email at ron_kreigh@hotmail.com
