this sounds like fun, I doubt I'll have the ZR-1 back by then, but I have a spare vette that can spank out some decent times

if I have it running good by then, I'll bring it, if not something else!

I heard back from the organizers today and they are 11 cars short for this event. If they don't get the pre-paided racers (40 I think) by this Sunday, this may be cancelled

If anyone wants to get some practice beforehand, I'm gonna run up there on 6/19 with some friends to get in a few runs at the test and tune.

If this Friday falls through due to weather, I'll try to make this event. Otherwise, 8am on a Saturday is too early for me! Should mean cool air though. :)

I may make it to this. I was up there today, Mike was going to bring his Z but couldn't make it. So maybe we'll try to meet up at this event.

I had fun racing my buddy's Mazdaspeed 3. A few times I ran him with the power key off to even it up a bit. Car runs in the 14.9 range that way.

I also ran some LS1 F-bodies that were good competition, and some other cars. I did a best of 12.79 with a lot of 13 flat runs. I was not expecting it to be that slow I sorta feel like the car is off ever since the coolant explosion, but maybe it's the weather. I dunno... I'm not sure what coolant could have gotten on that would just take the edge off the performance. The car otherwise drives fine, it's not rough or anything like that.

Bob,
What kind of trap speeds where you turning?

Aurora40
06-20-2009, 11:50 AM
114mph was the best. Mostly 112ish though. Much weaker than the last time I was in Bowling Green, where I did 115's and 116's. The weather at BG seemed worse to me, really hot. Though Mason Dixon probably has a little more elevation, but not crazy at 550'.

It just feels a little off or something. I'll have to dig through my time slips, I believe I've run 12.7's at Mason Dixon before I had headers done.

Hey Rich, Change of plans. I am making a speed run to Connecticut on Friday. I will head straight from there to the drag strip on Saturday morning. I won't be able to meet you on the way to the strip.

But I hope you will be able to stop at my place after the racing.

I sent you a PM.

I didn't get up early enough... So I swapped my brake pads instead. How was the event? What kind of times did you guys run?

Had a great time at the track today. Must of made over a dozen passes. Best time was 12.39 at a little over 113 mph. Had the 315/35-R17 MT ET radials on back and Pete's old skinny A-molds and Hoosiers up front on. The MTs started to really hook in the last hour we had the track. On the last run just before noon Jim and I faced off and I came out a little to hard and popped the driver's side spindle at the line. However this time I came better prepared and was packing a spare. Jim, Rich and several of my fellow Northern Virginia Corvette Club members graciously stuck around a couple of hours to help me R&R the spindle so the Z could make home under its own steam and not on the back of a trailer like last fall at Capital Raceway.
Hey Jim, thanks again pal for helping out with the wrench pulling.

Geez! This was the other side, not the one that let go last time? Man, you have some rough luck at the strip! Nice time though! Any videos?

I'm begining think maybe 94 was just not a good year for Corvette rear spindles.

Have a great day, after I got the hang of it, my best time was 13.2 @ 112.78 MPH...

Yeah Phil "Snapped" under the pressure of going against Jim's ZR-1. We couldn't talk Phil into doing one more run once he got the spindle swapped out . Pics and video are will be uploaded shortly.

It was a great day at the drag strip. We got to make as many runs as we wanted. Nice people and nicely run track. I highly recommend Mason-Dixon Drag Strip for racing.

Thanks the the Mustang club and the NVCC for putting the event together.

My best time was a 12.9 at 111mph. Not as fast as last month at BG. I was able to get a data recording of one run and I have some issues to work on.

Phil's car was amazing. He got better on each run. It was awesome to witness his thorough preparation. He had the rear spindle replaced in less that two hours. Good job Phil. But what part are you going to carry with you the next time you go to the track?

Thanks for posting the pics Rich. It was a pleasure racing and hanging out with you.

I have never worked on a car as clean as Phil's. It was a pleasure to assist the Master.

That's a strong trap speed, what is done to your car?

I just got the car in Feb, and outside of a Hailbeck chip and Borla exhaust, it's bone stock...not even headers...but they are on my list. I have never raced before and had a tough time getting the tires to hook up...spinning a lot off the line. My times got better as the day went on and Jim had me drop my tire pressure which helped. I did 10 runs and went from 14.5 to 13.2, I was really hoping to get under 13, but couldn't hit that mark...maybe next time. All and all, it was a blast, thanks to Jim and Phil for showing me the ropes
