The Jimmie Cone in Mt. Airy, MD hosts a cruise in on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month (from May through September). It's usually an informal get-to-gether that includes all types of cars and bikes, although some Saturdays there are planned events wrapped into the evening. Cars start showing up at ~4PM (earlier for some die-hards) and by ~8PM, things are pretty well wrapped up. Twice a month might be an overkill but the cars and ice cream make it worth going a couple of times in a season. The crowds can be pretty impressive.
It might be interesting to "feature" the first King of the Hill at one of these Saturdays events by having a 5 or 6 (or more) ZR-1s show up. Heck, Jim could almost do that by himself. If you look on a map, Mt. Airy is fairly centrally located between southeaster Pa, Baltimore, Columbia, and upper Montgomery County. It's not too bad for PG county depend and where you are located. It's a bit more of a haul for those from Virginia. How about if we throw out a few dates and pick one? Maybe we could feature the Z in a Maryland and Virginia cruise-in.
In the near term, the choices are:
This Saturday, June 6th or June 20th.
In July, it's July 4th and July 18th.
For August, we've got August 1st and August 15th.
Any takers?

Count me in. The only date I couldn't do is June 20th.
July 4th wouldn't be great, but I could make it if that is the day that suits everybody else.
Great Idea Scott!

Good idea, Scott. I can make 4 July. The JimmiCone dates almost exactly match my work schedule unfortunately.
Pick a date that works for the most people and have fun.

I'd like for us to agree on a date everyone can make. What would a local ZR-1 get together be without Jim? So July 4th looks like the only date that will work for everyone.
In spite of the published dates saying the "1st and 3rd Saturday of each month", I don't remember these dates ever having fallen on the 4th of July before. I'm thinking it makes sense for me to verify the cruise-in will take place on July 4th. I'll look into it tomorrow and report back!

I drove up to Jimmy Cone and there was nothing posted about Cruise In dates. The employees, who are high school and college kids did not know if there would be a drive in on July 4th. The owner of the Jimmy Cone in Mt. Airy works at his Jimmy Cone in Damascus. I'm trying to get a hold of him and ask.
Don't know what else to tell you...

I’ve put a good deal of time into trying to get some answers but I don’t know much more now that I did weeks ago. I still don’t know how the dates for the cruise ins are set or whether there is one planned for July 4th. Traditionally, the cruise ins are held on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month. As difficult as it has been for me to get answers or find information, I am confident that there is no reliable communication telling people that because the 1st Saturday of July is July 4th the July cruise in will be the second Saturday of the month. I believe people are going to show up even if a cruise in was not intended but I'm not sure. I also can’t tell you that if you show up, you’ll be able to see any fireworks.
The bottom line is I don’t think July 4th is a good idea for trying to get a handful of ZR-1s to the Mt. Airy cruise in. Sorry guys.
