Hi, I wanted to introduce myself. I'm new to ZR-1's but not to Vettes ( have a C5 and resto-mod 82). Fed -Ex just dropped a package off for me today and I'm very excited.

1994 admiral blue/beige interior less than 28,000 miles, completely stock and in show condition!!!

Your admiral is beautiful. Be careful with those GSCs. I will bet they are a little hard and could be pretty dangerous at speed. Keep the RPMs above 7000.

Very nice car. Exact same color combination as my first Vette (a '95 LT-1). Welcome.

Welcome to the Brotherhood of the Beast!!

Wow! That Z B purdy!! I'd advise not driving it too much. It will become an addiction for which there's no cure (fortunately)!

Hope you join the registry. A great place - the best place for all that is ZR-1!

Rudolph,

Congrats on your purchase!! Lots of history in that car (rare interior and celebrity owned).

I own an admiral too and I was torn on if I should drive it or just show it. Hope you DRIVE that beast too and ENJOY it!

cheers

Thank you for the kind words. I will look for some different tires as these are a little hard. Any places I should start looking??

Tire Rack seems to have Goodyear F1 GS-D3 (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Goodyear&tireModel=Eagle+F1+GS-D3&partnum=135YR7F1GSD3&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes&place=1) in stock.
I know Sumitomos are tempting but I was disappointed. Too balloon-like and less tread width.

As for Kumho, I don't know much about them. Goodyear seems to be the best choice.

Save them GSCs. You might want them for car shows later.

I agree with SecondChance. Purchase GS-D3's.... Best all around tire!

keep the original tires though (NCRS - National Corvette Restoration Society), in case you want to have your car judged.

Good Luck

Welcome to the Brotherhood. You are close. Consider making it to the PNW Gathering in Portland if you can. July 31-Aug 1.

Beautiful car.

 Welcome to our little asylum, Rudolph!

:handshak: That is a very nice looking Z! I hope you have many miles of smiles with her!

I'll also chime in on the rubber, that is if you do want to drive her some what spiritedly the GS-D3's are a nice choice for either dry or wet use. I have 30k & 5yrs on my set and they are just starting to get a bit hard. It's too bad as they have good tread depth left. Looks like I'll need another set due to age and not due to the factory's tread wear rating which puts off most folks. Ya get what you pay for and the G/Yrs are expensive, but they look good and more importantly they seem to suit the car's chassis very well. Great grip & stability in the wet, and in the dry....well when you can smell them in the cockpit, they're ready for some serious work!

The Goodyears appear to be the best choice, however I don't see myself putting a lot of miles on this car ( I hope that doesn't irritate some here) I have my C5 for this. I was thinking about the Kumhos just for the price? :happy1:

Howdy! You have one of the "good fellas" in your part of the country, Doug Asay at www.corvetterecycling.com He's a ZR-1 guy and is a great supporter of the C4.

Your new family member is awesome, one of my favorite color combos.

Hello and welcome to the forum. :handshak:

Here is a link to what type of tires fellow ZR-1 owners are running.

Don't worry about not driving it much as we have everyone here from daily drivers to garage queens.

The Nitto NT05 is not a bad priced street tire and I've seen it used on road tracks also on C5's and holds up good. Doubt if it would be too great in the rain. I've used the nt01, but not for the street.

Kumho would be good too, just haven't been around their street tires.

Don't forget to tell the tire shop about the low pressure sensors in there. I told them and they broke it off anyway.

Must be the pic. I'm just as big Scorpions fan. Few people recognize the name.

Thanks for the advice, :)

Congrats on the car! This group will be very helpful if you ever need advice on the car. I'm running with the Kumho Ecsta XS tire on mine, and I feel it is a pretty good tire for the car. It ran well in the rain and dry weather during my recent trip to Bowling Green.

When I first got my car it had Sumitomos on it. Nice tire, but the rears appeared too small for the vehicle. Welcome to the Brotherhood!
