I remember when the 4.6L came out in the early 90's. I thought it was a joke compared to the "real" 5.0L motors in the prior year's Mustangs and trucks. I'll hand it to those engineers though. That 4.6L is a good little motor!

Wow, that does look a lot like the LT5 plenum! Weird...

Yes, it is a pretty sturdy motor! This is a little off-topic but, I have a 4.6L in my '97 F-150 (single cab flareside) with the 5-speed tranny and I have definitely put it through its paces. Other than changing oil, sparkplugs, etc., I have done no major maintenance to it other than just recently replacing the powersteering pump. It has 130K on it and it still runs strong, idles smoothly and doesn't leak a drop of oil.

I have had 35" tires on it for awhile and still have not changed the diff gears (3.55 stock) so the powerband is way off. But I still towed a 21' Toyhauler with a quad in it all the way from Fresno to Pismo and back (a 3 hour trip one way). That motor was revving from 3K to almost 5K the whole way. Also, have done a lot of driving in the sand dunes at Pismo. I also used it to tow my ZR-1 home from Los Angeles, which was a 4 hour trip one way. It's like the energizer bunny, it just keeps going and going and going... It's definitly one of the toughest engines I've come across.
