I am adding a shift light and was wondering if I could splice into the tach wire above the hush panel or do I have to go back to the ignition module???:dontknow: Probably a stupid question but I want to make sure before I start slicing and dicing:mrgreen: I think the wiring schematic shows a white wire for the tack input.

you could splice into the wire going into the cluster for TACH.. otherwise, under hood at IM

Run the tach lead through the firewall to the white wire you mentioned. It's in a plug near the ECM. I can't take a photo right now, but could in the morning & show you where it is and my shift light tie-in. No need to splice into the wire as I recall.

Jerry,

If you could send a pic it would really help. I can't find the cluster:mad: Thanks...........

Bob,
Took a few photos, pulled out a spare harness & photo-shopped a bit.

I didn't have the connector to plug in to the receiving end of the plug shown, so I trimmed the end of the tach lead & tinned it until it fit snugly into the harness end of the F connector. After it was fitted, I threaded it through the cap, pushed it into the harness side & slid the cap down & installed it. The black retainer holds the wire in just fine & never had a problem. No cutting or splicing into the harness.

Jerry,

Where did you snake wire thru firewall for shift light? I'm about to do this myself.

Thanks Jerry. I saw that one but I didn't think it was the right connector.

Well, I can't remember & can't see it under the dash because it's probably under the insulation. I can see from the top that it goes down below the steering column but can't get under the car now to see it. Sorry I can't be of more help right now.

There is a black wire coming thru the firewall just next to the steering column. I put my tach wire thru that hole. I now have to find a hot on/off wire above the hush panel for power. Got the ground wired in under the panel.

Jerry thanks again for the help:handshak:

If your installing the shift light in the vent.
You can pick up hot and ground from the center console the extra wires the factory has left for just this reason.

They are by the hatch release botton (center console).

Pete, the extra wires I don't think started until 91.

Pete,

I'm using those connections for my WB. If you're taking the rpm signal at the
diag connector I can pull 12v switched and ground from there and just run it as a harness to the interior.

Dom, my WB has cigarette lighter cord for powering the WB.

Pete,

I believe the LM-2 was built to work that way. The ZT-2 isn't. In fact, the instructions specifically state not to use the cigarette lighter for power.
When I first got mine I did use the lighter and it worked fine. I also had TPS output being logged by the ZT-2. It worked fine and then the car started running erratically with TPS signal being interfered with by WB. Once I hooked it up to switched power and used ECM ground the problem went away.
