View Full Version : Crank engine without starting

Hi! I'm about to put my plenum back after fixing some vacuum leaks and new injectors. My concern is that maybe some coolant seeped down in the injector housing, and I don't want to destroy my engine, so i will pull the sparkplugs and crank the engine before start-up. What is the procedure for this?

Also is it a good advise to pressurize the fuelrail before installing it to se if the injectors don't leak ( new from FIC)

Not knowing what year your car is, in my case, 94 motor, removing plenum doesn't create a whole lot of coolant drip. I think it takes a quite a bit of water to cause hydro static lock. Having said that, removing all spark plugs and turning the motor (make sure your fuel connections to fuel rail is tightened and injectors are seated and clipped to fuel rail) should pump out excessive coolant in all cylinders.

As for pressurizing fuel rails/injectors to check for leaky injector seems to make sense me. Of course, I am not one of LT5 gurus.

Hi! my car is a 92 Red/Black

I was thinking of only removing the front 4 sparkplugs as those cylinder are the only ones that might have water in them.
I think there's a way to disable the ignitionmodule so it won't give any sparks at all, but I don't know how.

Unplugging spark plug wires would achieve the same.

But I want to have the 4 front sparkplugs out because if there is water in the cylinders it will hopefully blow out of the sparkplugs holes

I maybe need to shut of the fuelpums as well

You can remove 4 plugs where you suspect water may have gotten in and the rest of cylinders remove spak plug wires - no spars to all cylinders.
As for fuel pumps, I believe, fuses are accessible on passenger side side of dashboard. remove cover and it will indicate which fuse is to primary and secondary fuel pumps.

Unplug the injector 1 and injector 2 fuses. Make sure you have something covering the spark plug holes. If there is anything in there, it comes out with some force and makes a mess.

Removing just the wires will keep the engine from firing, but if he's concerned about hydraulic lock from coolant in the cylinder(s), pulling the plug wires won't do the job, plugs must be removed.

The safety issue is addressed by Jeff's recommendation to unplug the injector fuses to keep fuel from entering the cylinders & then blowing out during cranking with plugs out. I would also recommend laying the plug wires on the windshield to prevent an errant spark igniting fuel vapor blowing out of the plug hole.

I just had a call from a friend about a hydraulic lock issue. His daughters boyfriend put a cold air package on his daughters Honda. We've had a lot of rain lately & she drove through some standing water & the engine died. It locked up from ingested water through the cold air intake. Can totally trash an engine.
