View Full Version : Question about catch can, specifically on a '90

When you all are installing your catch can, what are you using where the hose hits the plenum connection? Are you still using that square two-hole rubber piece, and inserting some kind of short pipe into it? Do you remove it? It looks like it would be hard to get two hoses on the two nipples attached to the plenum, since they are so close together.
Also, I had a thought to take the existing tube that runs from the F-piece to the plenum, cut a small section out between the two tabs that are held in place by plenum screws, then angle them out a bit, and attach my catch can hoses there.
Would that be a terrible idea? I thought the plus would be it will keep the connections at the F pipe and at the plenum from moving around, which presumably will prolong the life of these expensive-to-replace pieces. I also thought it might look a little more "factory".

I am using 2 hoses at the front. that is how I got the car.. I have a clamp on one, but a new hose for the catch can and no clamp.
I think you could use the OEM dual piece int he front with a 3/8 to 3/8 barb, then run the hose to the can.. use the same type 3/8 to 3/8 bard at the F tube
again run hose to Catch can..

My main concern is ruining the dual-piece and the F-piece. Neither are available anymore, and both are pretty dang pricey now for NOS stuff. Both of mine are more or less new, having luckily replaced them before the prices got crazy.
That's mainly why I thought of cutting the existing pipe. However, of course I'd "ruin" that, and it's NLA too. I think worst case I could patch the section I cut with some rubber hose, and it would look like the coolant lines with metal and rubber sections.
Also, you didn't have a problem fitting two hoses next to each other over the two plenum nipples? They are really close together, which I assume is why they made that special rubber piece.

I think those metal tubes on mine were tweaked before I got the car.
for the F tube, I would suggest using LGAFFs solution and putting the OEM one away.
As for the dual connector either the correct size Barb OR a piece of piping the same size of the OEM tube
then I think the Dual connector would be fine with it.. then use hose to go to the Catch can

That's what I did. Bought some aluminum pipe and cut a piece about 2" long, then used 3/8" ID fuel line hose with another screw clamp on it.
That goes to the inlet side of the catch can which has a 3/8" barb on it.

Mine is routed to where the AIR stuff was bolted. Used a 1" electrical C clamp to hold it onto chassis. The stock pipe is now put away with all the other bits I have taken off the car.

I don't know if these pics help, but I used the original style connector from JeffVette with the plastic tubing on the two pipes on plenum. Mine came originally with hoses and bent to fit. I gently bent them back to fit the stock type connector and bought plastic barbed on both ends connector to plug into the the connector and my braided hose. The fit is so tight I did not use clamps and only the black anodized ends for cosmetics. As for the F connector above the PCV valves I did the same thing to catch can. I have extra OEM F connectors somewhere and managed to get a bag of them from a Corvette supplier (I might have 4 or 5 of them). Sorry, difficult to get good pics of this area, especially early on Sunday AM before even having my coffee and reading the Sunday paper.

Not trying to hijack this thread, but have seen threads about this 'catch can' thing and was wondering what it is. Is there a factory one on there, or is it something new you guys have added? What does it do? What is the benefit of installing this?

Your best bet is to do a search with catch can in the title on this forum and the other one (CF) as there is quite a bit of information. Basically the PCV systems pass a lot of oil into the engine. Since installing the catch can I have been collecting quite a bit of oil and you will see a post with the cup from draining the collection from my catch can. I have just been collecting and adding it back into the engine.
