Hi there!
I wanted to send out a note to let you know I am announcing that I am finally beginning the project I’ve dreamed of for over 15 years….and you are invited to be a part of it. It may be the last testament to the most inspirational car ever to come through General Motors. The ZR-1.

As you so very well know, the ZR-1 was (what most say) a program that will probably never happen again. It was about the car but more importantly, about the people who dedicated themselves to this program and brought such a unique world class sports car to the world amidst monumental obstacles. Tony Young did a terrific book (Heart of the Beast) on the details of the ZR-1 vehicle itself. In fact, Tony has already sent us some of the material he collected while doing the HOTB book. We hope to include those facts and some of the interesting stories about the people themselves.

Now it is important that you understand that this is not going to be some amateur home video, but rather, a professionally edited, broadcast quality production. Over the next few months, we hope to conduct personal interviews at various times and places beginning with this year’s Gathering.

As most of you know, we’ve been fortunate enough to have been at least a small part of the ZR-1 experience and legacy and it has been my dream to bring some of those experiences to the screen so that the past present and future owners of such a historic car can share and experience them for years to come.

We will be offering the 2 disc DVD early next year and at the 2010 Gathering. The set will include the documentary and a separate disc of the raw footage we have of the MerCruiser facility when it was still producing the LT5. In fact, we have some of the only video of the engine assembly process from start to finish, along with much of the machining processes of the parts themselves, narrated by Engineer Brian White.

Other topics to be included will be the “early years”, the European media trip, Stillwater and Legend events. We will also be providing a very nice printed booklet explaining the video with plenty of room for autographs.

We hope this debut will help make the 20th anniversary of the ZR-1 a huge success. We will be inviting all participants in the video to attend and from our initial conversations, we should have one heck of a memorable event. Please watch for further announcements if you would like to be added to our contact list for future updates and availability info.

See Ya Soon!

Sounds like a great idea. Count me in for a copy or two. Don't forget to make a trip north to interview Nanook and I. "Keepin' the Beast Alive" in the frozen north.
