Oil Catch Can II

Before I started up the 92 today I drained the catch can......holy sh#* there was alot of oil!

Well I thought I would go ahead and put one on the 90. I bought a husky compressor filter, filled it with a stainless steel scrub pad......but here is the good part. Went to Autozone and bought a Spectre ignition coil cover($10).....perfect to hold the catch can. Mounted it on the brake booster:

-The coil cover also mounts well on the filter, but needs to be snugger on the bottom of the filter:

I will probably move this to the front well as with the 92, its less obvious but the baket works well. The kit also needs a smaller bolt, the one it comes with is too long, but it ws intended to use 2 brackets and I used 1.

With a catch can is there a drain that goes into the engine someplace or do you just periodically empty the catch can and put that oil back into the engine manually? I know, a pretty basic question but I don't assume anything when it comes to taking care of that engine.

you drain the oil about every 1000 miles (at least thats wha ido) i dont put it back in the motor as it might be dirty or has some steel woolfibers in it

Oil is pulled into the plenum and adding oil can cause combustion issues(detonation)....Open up your plenum and you'll find as assload of it.


Its a damn LT5 not a lawnboy no need to add oil and fuel together!

Gotcha. I do remember there being a small amount in there after pulling the plenum. I don't recall it being very much at all though. Do you have a write-up / how-to on this?

Its pretty easy....

1)Purchase a catch can or as I did an air compressor filter.
-Buy 8ft or so of 5/16 hose(I think this is correct), ....basically the same size as the aluminum tube you are replacing.
- if using the compressor filter need 3/8 to 1/4 reducer and two 2 air compressor line nipples(1/4 I believe), along with a coupling barb to connect the PCVs to the 5/16 line.

2) Attach the 3/8 reducer to the filter, then screw in the nipples(ouch).

2)Buy a stainless steel pad to insert in the can/filter....this will help turn the oil vapor into a liquid to catch in the can....not steel wool but the thicker scrub pads.

3)Attach the barb to the PCV gomment and run it into the 5/16 hose...choose a place to mount the catch can and attach the line running from the PCVs. Then run the line to the plenum provision that the aluminum line was attached to.....

If using the compressor filter make sure you have in the filter facing the right way there in an inlet and outlet, otherwise I believe you will be pressurizing your engine.

I woud lean toward getting a catch can, I am not sure this last filter it holding vacuum, no problems with the one on the 92
