My recline on the seatback no longer works. I pulled the cushion off, the motor seems to run fine. And the seatback moves fine when I disconnected the rod from the seatback. What doesn't work fine is the rod moving through the square piece that the motor drives. I'm guessing whatever gears are inside the square part have seized up.

Even with the motor drive disconnected, I couldn't push the rod through it.

Is this part available? Is there some easy fix or way to disassemble it? I manually set the seat to a decent rake, but I'd of course like to fix this. Thanks!

From Kurt's CD, it appears to be called the "recliner, gearnut", part #10148050.

Is 90 seat the same as 91? Both 91 I had and 94 I have currently, seat back recline is done manualy - pull a small lever on outboard front of seat and lean on the seat back.
Perhaps you are talking about elecric motor/drive for front and rear of seat that tilts the seat forward or back?

Call me at 703 356 2724 X309. If no answer, call me at 703 980 8814. We can discuss.

I believe you are referring to the latch to access the cargo area, which is on the backside of the headrest. All ZR-1's had power sport seats with electric recline (electric everything really).

I've got a line on the part from Phrogs, so I should be good to go. Thanks, though! :)

It's a mechanical latch.

Wow... Why would they do that?

Yea, the 90 sport seat, and maybe the 89 sport seat option, are different from the 91 sport seat. I've seen picts of a 91 sport seat and the control panel located in the right thigh bolster is missing. I had read somewhere that there were customer complaints to GM about "the complexity of the seat controls" by customers.

Just one more thing that makes our 90 Z's a bit of an anomaly....

That control panel also controls the bolsters on the seatback. Are they no longer adjustable on the '91+ cars?

The bolster switch was relocated to the plastic housing for the seat base. Still the same toggle switch.
