In a "Parts for Sale/Wanted" post VetteMed told us that the very nice rear Amolds he has for sale were refurbished by Saturn Wheel Company. Thankyou VetteMed ! I contacted Saturn Wheel Company to find out what it would cost to have a set of front and rear OE Amolds refinished. Here is their response:

These wheels would be powder coated. We would strip the wheels completely down and check them for uniformity. We could paint the barrels as well. If these wheels have the polished finish verses, the machined finish it does cost more plus it takes several days to turn them around. If they just have the machined finish then it would only take a couple of days to ship them back out. If they are machined the cost per wheel including painting barrels would be $195 a pc. If they are polished, you would be looking at $255 a pc. Let us know if you are interested and when you may be shipping them in.

I'd be looking at somewhere between $780 to $1020 plus shipping for the set. Any thoughts on their cost? Does this sound about right? Anyone else have any recommendations and experience with a place to have Amolds refinished?

I've had a couple sets done by "Ye Ole Wheel & Welding" in Elkridge MD! The last was a set of GS wheels. I can't imagine taking anything "anywhere else"! John does work frequently for some of the Callaway guys, he's done several several sets of Dymags for guys. John's not quick but a "quality" shop generally isn't!

I've always had very "interesting" conversations with him!

He did a set of flanges for me to repair some "tire tool" damage on a set and I had one "perfect" wheel. I carried in the three wheels I wanted done and he held up 4 fingers! I said just these. He shook his "4 fingers"!! He does complete sets to match the flanges! Will he do "one"? Probably! But I was quite happy surrendering the "fourth" after he explained.

Their procedure these days is urethane, PPG I believe still and it's prime/cure, color/cure and clear/cure!

If you use a "high production" collision orientated facility I'm quite sure you won't get the same attention to detail. Your GM A-molds aren't polished flanges. The '90 MY wheels are and it's generally maybe $50 to $75 extra per wheel to refinish.

I had my '90 wheels done locally also by a different company and I'm as happy with them as my A-molds. The company has changed hands a couple times since and I don't know that I'd recommend them. Can't say anything bad but they're "high volume" collision orientated presently and that means something usually suffers!

Get in touch! We can talk about them!!

Try Jeff Flint, PM Jeffvette and see what he can do for you.
He offers damn near a lifetime warranty on the wheels he does.
