The 90 ZR-1 "Active Suspension" prototype is being auctioned off again at Barrett Jackson Palm Beach this weekend. Does anyone remember what it sold for at Scottsdale? It will be interesting to see how much money somebody probebly lost or maybe made on that car in the last 4 months.

I wonder why it is selling again so quick? Does it run? Do the active parts work? Does it need to be sent to Boeing for repairs?

I remember reading that a prototype car was at Carslile last year and that it took some un-godly amount of time to change the spark plugs prior to the car show.

It would be fascinating if the car, and it's suspension, all still worked. That would be a very interesting car to ride in. Like a previous post mentioned though, what would it take to make and then keep that technology working?
By looking at photos of that engine I wondered what a plug change would be like. Yikes!
Curious... If one was to purchase any of these cars could they be licensed and driven on the street?

If the VIN plate has a EX or E or P in it then no... means car was a prototype/experimental/engineer eval type vehicle and not meant for titling or road use. The only way around this would be to try and claim as a 'kit car' (how in the hell one could pull that off I have no idea). I believe most of the GM Heritage collection sold at BJ Scottsdale and PB are noted as sales with no titles. Owning one of these cars is braggin rights or pride of having a piece of Vette history.

I think that there has to be "ways" around getting a registration for some of these types of car. It maybe that some states' DMV regulations have "loop holes" that can be exploited.
I'm no expert on this stuff, but I remember at Carslile 07 at our ZR-1 area Tyler had "Queenie" on display and that car had plates on it. I asked Tyler about the plates and he said that the car was registered...or at least I think I remember that part correctly. :dontknow::redface:

This should give you an idea.
From Sports Car Market:
West Palm Beach, Florida: Midway through Friday's collector car sale, representatives of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) forced Barrett-Jackson to stop the sale of certain cars from the GM Heritage Fleet. Our sources tell us that this order from NHTSA was completely unexpected; Barrett-Jackson and GM have been extremely careful to note, in written material posted on the cars, which GM cars are sold on "salvage titles" or similar, and cannot be registered. Apparently, despite this, NHTSA is concerned that someone "might try" to register the cars for the street.
GM and Barrett-Jackson are attempting to resolve this so that the cars, which have been heavily publicized and have drawn bidders from across the nation, can be sold. Unfortunately, discussions are hampered by the fact that the relevant NHTSA offices are closed for the day, and reportedly will be closed tomorrow as well.

And this folks is why this would be a neat car to have in your collection, I know AZ would have the same opinion on this and it would be a challenge to get it through the DMV. Some states out there are a lot looser and can wash a car through the system of title and registry issues and such but you have to understand going into it that it will be an large uphill battle. Id love to have this car but you would also have to throw practicallity out the window with a purchase like this. Its meant to be in a collection but would be sure neat to pull up into shows with it.
