Maybe some of you ZR-1 elders can shine a light on what Lgaff found on the back of my block. He has previously looked at Pass. side flange and found his VIN # on his 92. Today we decided to look at mine after coming back from the BBQ at Haibeck's. What we found was a number 100991-14.
My VIN ends in 474. Also there was a 6662 on the cylinder head.
When I bought the car from zipz, I was told that there had been an engine replaced under warranty at 16K miles. RKriegh had told me that all replacement motors were built as 4 bolt mains given that remaining motors were built when ZR-1 program was being discontinued and they built out rest of inventory in one final shot.
From markings on the car and VIN I know it was built on or near June 6 of 92. Any insight from the ZR-1 High Priests :worship: would be greatly appreciated.

Let me check the 92, the other blocks I checked were the 90s....#702, and #966. Not sure why they would not match the block on the 92, but will take a peek tomorrow.

I am wondering if 10-09-91 is the date code?

What I thought when I saw it. Oct 91 motor build? Supposedly the guy that owned the car put up a big stink on motor replacement. However, is it possible they swapped block and kept stock top end because there's no EGR.

Looks like there may be one more place to check VIN

All replacement motors couldn't have been 4-bolts. I'm sure in 89, 90, 91, etc, they built some replacement motors anticipating the need to swap some. And I'm sure some cars got swaps before the '93 motor was even a thought.

Also, there is some stamping that identifies the block. Hib had posted this information in terms of what codes meant what years. I remember seeing it, I just can never find it... Might have been in an email on the listserv?

Edit: Here it is referred to as the "tracking number": http://www.zr1netregistry.com/ZR1_vin.htm

My 1990 has: 10ZSH

I believe this stamping should be on the driver's side, not the passenger's side where the VIN goes. Though on a replacement engine, who knows what is on the passenger's side.

My 92 has the Vin Stamp w/ #234 on it...PS.

The number of the heads is a produciton #, mine is 5778 and the spare motor I have is in the 2K range, numbers are not sequential.

Wonder if the 14 on your car is a replacement motor #

the 4 digit number should be on the back of your head and it should have the same number stamped into the cam cover this is what tells you its a matched set.

Apparently 10ZUD would be a MY95 engine. I guess they didn't all get '93 stampings:

It would be nice to see the full list.
