The last time I did this it also took forever to build preasure up in the clutch pedal after bleeding. I've been at it 20 minutes so far still nothing.:(

Holy crap! As I was pumping the pedal I felt clutch fluid leaking on my foot inside the car. That master cylinder is practically brand new to. I'm speachless. Whats next. All I can do is just laugh about it. It is kinda funny. My Z took a leak on me. I've never heard of that one happeing. I still have my old master cylinder I think is fine. I'll just put it back on.

That really sucks!
I remember Jeff F. demonstrating changing out a slave cylinder on Ron H's (son's?) Z @ the West Gathering in Las Vegas. It was up on the lift (great setup at Gary Patterson's home) and couldn't get it to work.
Turned out to be the master.
Might want to check with Jeff.
Good Luck!

That master has been leaking for quit a while. That stuff is like acetone. It eats anything thats plastic or foam. I could see under the dash where the master plunger comes in where it melted a little piece of foam. I guess I did toss my old master cylinder in the trash. Well off to find another one. There's never a dull moment. I am starving to death. I'll make a few phone calls and eat lunch.

They say it will be there at 5:00pm today to pick up. Now I'll just cross my fingers and hope it is the right part. Later dudes.

I haven't done that repair but if it is like some, maybe it is time to buy some GM parts and pay the price. I have not had good luck with aftermarket stuff.

It's hard to believe the run of bad luck you seem to be having; man I'm feeling for you at this point. It seems when it comes to your Z, if it weren't for bad luck you wouldn't be having any.
The upside has got to be a bulletproof ZR1 sometime soon because everything is going to be new!

You got that right brother!
I'm sure the day will come that I won't be on here talking about all the things I'm having to repair. And then I can talk about things like "(Hey HIZNHRZ! What rims do you think would look pretty on my car?)" or "(Hey guys check out these pictures of my plenum and valve covers and stainless steel hardware after Jeffvette just got done powder coating them for me)!" Nope! I'm just not there yet. And after that I've got to replace a few wheel bearings and the front tie rod ends. It's just stuff that has to be done. And alot of you guy's will eventually have to go through it to. So don't laugh. Your times comming. I've just been forced to get a head start on you. The same repairs I'm having to make now may not happen to you guys for another 5 or even 10 years from now. But they will happen. You can bet on it.;););)

Rick, brother I do feel for you! If you go to zfdoc.com & read Bill's write up on the bad parts...well the a good many of the pictures are of my parts...I had to buy $600.00 worth of masters and slaves before I got some stuff to work with. As for the rest of the "not fun repair work to do to a ZR-1".....I'm right there with ya bud. I've yet to stop finding things that need to be repaired vs stuff that ya wanna do because it's fun. My headers are still in the box from christmas...Front suspension over haul must come first....then next year it's the rear suspension...then I will have finished all the necessary jobs to keep a 20 yr old car safe...and then I can start the fun stuff, hopefully!
P.S. I sent Bill B three masters and three slaves and I have one of each still in my tool box.....actually the slave is just the body, but the two masters are still together, one leaks out the back and the other has soooo much bore run out that when it was in the car I could feel it when I pushed the clutch pedal!:jawdrop:
You ain't alone Bro! Keep the faith!

Rick... love your attitude...roll with the punches and laugh things off. Got to be frustrating but you are certainly teaching us quite a bit. I am finding that the LT5 overall is built like a proverbial tank BUT it seems the little things become the most difficult or challenging... here I am 'preachin' to the choir'
I had a niggling little coolant leak...just enough to leave a drop on the floor after running the engine (this is nothing like your clutch story...lordy)...like the ZR was taunting me. Replaced several hoses etc etc and finally it turned out to be the most obvious (in hind sight) and easy fix... the radiator drain petcock needed a bit more tightening...felt like an idiot.
I am also finding out more 'if it ain't broke don't fix it..'... I was looking to the clutch hydraulic system... replace etc... but it doesn't leak, works great thus no touch...and yes my time will come but not yet.
Do lets us know what finally happens on your most recent saga....

If they don't, I stock GM masters and slaves.
When bleeding the system, I dismount the clutch slave and turn it so I can depress the clutch rod against the pan with the bleeder open and then close it before I release tension from the pan. DO that twice and you should have decent pedal feel. After that, just pump away, any air bubbles will trickle back up through the master.
The other option is a wilwood master similar to what I used in my LS1 conversion.

Hey Jeff. Man the plot just keeps thickening for me. I replaced both the master and the slave and had my 71 year old father in law come over to pump the pedle 20 times and hold it down while I open the bleed screw then tell him to let off. And refill till the pressure was back. But this time there was too much preasure. I had to practically stand on it and push it all the way to the floor. And I could still barely shift as if the slave rod wasn't pushing the throwout bearing fork back far enough to fully disengage the clutch. And half way around the block I press down to shift and all of a sudden "POP"! Peddle was loose in the wind again stuck in 1st gear with emergency flashers on at 5,000 rpm's trying not to get rear ended. My first thought was I hope my throwout bearing didn,t break off again. But It never engaged far enough for a clean shift. After I got it back in the garage I looked under it and saw clutch fluid splattered underneith the car so I'm hoping just the slave exploded and not something more. I've read hear about some people having to go through numerous slave cylinders before getting one that worked right.

that wilwood option might be pretty cool if its not too hard to make it fit . bet their parts work outa the box. rick you might ask jeff about it could be the solution once and for all

If you want to try it I have extra master and the hose if you want to try them out and see if they work?
If they do you can then buy them from me let me know if you want to try them out.

You didn't have the slave pin in the correct location on the pivot arm. It was not actuating the throwout bearing, and it finally slipped off and blew the seal out. Most people when replacing it do not get it aligned correctly. Ted probably remembers me telling Ron Jr to look at for that when he was installing it.
You should be able to pull the slave apart and rebuild it and throw it back on with out any issues.

After looking at it things there is no fluid leaking anywhere. And when I press the pedle down it only goes about 1 inch before it stops solid and you can't push it any further. It's still a good three inches from the floor. And the master cylinder's still full. The fluid I saw must of been all the degreaser I sprayed under there which has evaporated. So I think I'm gonna open the bleed screw and see if the peddle preasure goes down. Chime in if you guys have any suggestions.
