rubber bands will go on passed the 8,000 rpm. Are chains will not. Weight of the metal chains not so good.

I for one am glad they built the motor with chains, if it was with belts, guys would be bending valves left and right by not sticking to service intervals.
Belts are good for 30-50k miles and then have to be changed, at least 20 years they did, i've never heard of anyone replacing chains at those mileage intervals due to wear & when did you ever hear an LT5 jump a tooth on the timing, never, but with belts, guaranteed there would be incidents.

Belt's help absorb harmonics, usually take a tiny amount less power to run but most importantly they won't go into 'Cordual action' like a chain. basically a chain will want to start whipping around in an 'S' shape to a certain degree, that of coarse throws the timing/valve events off, in relation to the crank at higher RPM. don't have time to get into it any more than that right now, felt it at least deserved a quick reply for now.

Setting cam timing on that engine might be a "tad" easier too!

Thank you guys for explaining it to me.
Ideally, instead of our three chains, we would only have one belt & an idler pulley(s) if the development went in that direction. I guess from looking at the pictures. We have chain tensioners and a belt system would use the idler pulley(s) for that function. Do I get that part?
Therefore when timming the cams if it was one belt you would set all the alignment marks up and release the idler(s) and wait to see how much movement you got so you would know how many teeth to add or subtract to actually get the marks aligned in the tension mode?
