On my 1990 ZR-1 (#566) build sheet there are two date references:
SCHED. NO. DATE 0105917

DATE: 89/297
TIME: 12:37

The second number sequence group would be 89 for 1989 and 297 for the 297th day of the year which would be 10/24/89...yet on the lower left inside hood is a grease pencil marking 10 27 89A (which according to NCRS types is the build completion date). Very faint but can see the 10 and 89A in this pic and with a flash light at the correct angle can see the full date of 10 27 89A

Assume build sheet was issued (thus start of production) on 10/24/89 and car finished production 10/27/89. The engine build date is 10 7 89

The ZR-1 was recorded into dealer stock on 11/20/89 (that date and dealer stock number also in grease pencil on the upper underside of hood) and sold 11/21/89 (have the original bill of sale)... so it took about 25 days to leave BG and arrive to the St. Petersburg FLA dealership (Maher Chevrolet)

(1) Still need to decipher SCHED. NO. DATE 0105917
(2) For the month of January my ZR has been the 'ZR-1 of the Month' with the very wrong build date of 11/21/89 shown (my fault...I provided info)

 That's some nice detective & cypher cracking work Mike!

I've never noticed any grease pencil markings on my hood, just that engraved date thing. Also, my CCVB cover doesn't have any engravings on it either, unless I missed it when I was cleaning the oil mess off of it & the rest of the valley. What a mess! The cover bolts were finger tight & the blow by was sooo bad that I had oil running out of the pipe on to the oil pan....at least I knew that my valley drain wasn't clogged....

I don't remember seeing numbers on the top of my breather like yours has.

You wouldn't happen to know how to crack the code on a ignition module with 2H18E? It's a spare and just wondered how long it's been setting on a shelf?
